Hot stove baseball: Oakland and Chicago

The Chicago Cubs just completed a steal. Late this afternoon, word broke that the Cubs acquired Oakland Athletics starting pitcher, Rich Harden. The Cubs also picked up pitcher Chad Gaudin in exchange for right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher, outfielder Matt Murton, infielder Eric Patterson and catcher Josh Donaldson.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but the Cubs may have secured a return to the post-season. Humzooers, that is rare for the Cubs to return to the post-season in back-to-back years. The last time was 1906 through 1908.

1) Murton was my husband's favorite player. I liked him too. I'll miss looking at Patterson.

2) Murton? Really? I thought he made Soriano look like a serviceable left fielder. Everybody thought he would be a power hitter, but that never panned out. As of Wednesday, he has 28 career home runs.

3) Congrats, but "the frumpy hamlet to the north" ( http://www.onmilwaukee.com/sports/articles/frumpymariot...) sure hopes his "oft injured" stays injured. :P

It's on...
