Minor League Baseball: Kernals vs. Cougars

Tonight my company is hosting a summer gathering at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, Illinois. That park is the home of the Kane County Cougars, Class-A affiliate of the Oakland A's.

Tonight's game is a match-up between the Cedar Rapids Kernals and the Kane County Cougars. Usually, I post the National League Central standings when I attend a game. Since this is Minor League Baseball, here are the standings the Midwest League's Western Division standings (second half).

Burlington 30-21 ---
Cedar Rapids 29-23 1.5 GB
Quad Cities 28-24 2.5 GB
Beloit 27-25 3.5 GB
Clinton 27-25 3.5 GB (First half division winner)
Peoria 25-27 5.5 GB
Kane County 23-29 7.5 GB
Wisconsin 17-35 13.5 GB

pretty tight division. And I like how they are all small cities and then last place...the state of Wisconsin.

Yeah, I don't understand that. Perhaps that allows flexibility to move the franchise. One season they are in Wauwatosa, the next Fond du Lac, and then somewhere on the border of the UP.

The Kane County Cougars were losing 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, they rallied to score two runs and win, 8-7.
