MLB 2019 Game #17: Cubs vs. BrewersToday, we are making our final regular-season trip to Milwaukee's Miller Park. Of course, the Milwaukee Brewers (73-68, .518) are still competing for a postseason berth in both the National League Central Division and the National League wild card races. They trail the St. Louis Cardinals (80-62, .563) by 6 1/2 games in the division race and sit in third place. In the wild card race, they trail the Chicago Cubs (76-65, .539) by three games for the second wild card spot. The Philadelphia Phillies (73-68, .518) are tied with the Brewers in the wild card standings while the Arizona Diamondbacks (75-67, .528) are just 1 1/2 games out. Perhaps a postseason visit to Miller Park is still a possibility.
This afternoon's game will mark my third consecutive matchup between the Cubs and Brewers. The venue switches to Milwaukee after the last two were played at Wrigley Field. The Cubs will send their ace, lefty Jon Lester (12-9, 4.19 ERA) to the mound. The 35-year-old has been roughed up during his last seven starts. During that run, he's compiled a 3-3 record and a 5.94 ERA. In his last start, he last just 4 1/3 innings against the Washington Nationals. He allowed six earned runs and nine hits.
Milwaukee will counter with 26-year-old Adrian Houser (6-5, 3.45 ERA). During his last seven games, he posted a 2-1 record with a 2.39 ERA. Most recently, he lasted 5 1/3 innings against the Cardinals on August 21. He earned the win and allowed just one run on six hits.
