MLB 2022 Game #15: Cubs vs. Nationals

Enjoying a few days off before heading to Baltimore for my first SABR convention. Since the Chicago Cubs are in Washington, DC for a three-game series against the Washington Nationals, it seemed like a logical stop along the way.

Tonight will be my third MLB game in our nation's capital. My first visit was in July 2007 when I saw the Cubs and Nationals play at old RFK Stadium. My second game, and first at Nationals Park, was in July 2013 to see the San Diego Padres play.

The Cubs will send 31-year-old Marcus Stroman (3-5, 4.20 ERA) to the mound. During his last start, he faced the Nationals at Wrigley Field and walked away with a no-decision. He pitched five innings, allowed as many hits and four earned runs.

The Nationals will counter with 24-year-old Josiah Gray (7-8, 4.81 ERA). Like Stroman, his last appearance came in Chicago at Wrigley Field. He too walked away with a no-decision after pitching 6 1/3 innings. He surrendered two earned runs on seven hits.

Neither of these teams will be appearing in the 2022 postseason. The Cubs (47-66, .416) sit in a distant third place in the NL Central. They trail the St. Louis Cardinals by 15 1/2 games. The Nationals (38-78, .328) are buried at the bottom of the NL East. They sit a whopping 37 1/2 games behind the New York Mets.
