Then there were six

Apparently, the best team in the National League was the only team to be swept out of the NLDS. The three other first round match-ups were extended to at least four games.

The Milwaukee Brewers managed to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night at Miller Park, but they fell flat on Sunday. The Phillies returned on Sunday to launch home run after home run into the bleachers. The Phillies will advance to the National League Championship Series for the first time since 1983. They will match-up against the Los Angeles Dodgers. These two teams have not played each other in the postseason since the 1980 NLCS. The Phillies won that series en route to their only World Series championship in franchise history.

In the Junior Circuit, better known as the American League, the White Sox avoided elimination with a win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Chicago's U.S. Cellular Field. Game 4 is scheduled for 4:07 p.m. CT this afternoon. The White Sox hope to win these evening and force a fifth and final game back in Tampa Bay.

The Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim played well into the evening. After 12 innings, the Angels also eluded elimination and defeated the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Angels survived an early lapse of judgment which allowed three runs to score. The two teams play again this evening at 8:37 p.m. CT.

4) Biker Ben, don't worry. Baseball blogs will be a year-round thing on my site. They might cool down a bit during the winter, but sometimes blockbuster trades happen. The blogs didn't end with the demise of the Cubs. I guess we can officially add the White Sox to DOA list.

5) The Boston Red Sox just pulled out a victory in the bottom of the ninth at Fenway Park. Looks like the NLCS and ALCS are set. Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays. Three old teams and one from the Clinton Administration.
