Suffering from Withdrawal

Almost two months have passed since the Chicago Cubs won the National League Central Division, finished the 2008 season with the best record in the National League, and somehow forgot they qualified for the playoffs. Sorry, am I ranting?

For some reason, I started suffering from the early stages of baseball withdrawal this morning. I am taking today off to get ready for Thanksgiving at our house on Thursday. When I woke up, something clicked in my head. It'd be great to do some cleaning, swing by Portillo's for lunch, then come back home around 1:20 p.m. and watch the Cubs. Can't WGN or Comcast air a Cubs 2008 season in review? Today I would even watch a replay of a Pittsburgh Pirates/Kansas City Royals interleague game.

Just over two months until pitchers and catchers report to spring training.

Update!

I found a clip from a local news broadcast covering the 1979 Disco Demolition promotion at Comiskey Park. That'll tide me over for a bit. By the way, the photo that they are using that reads, "Riot at Sox Park," that's a photo of Wrigley Field. Oops.

Sounds like me during the summer waiting for the return of cooler weather! I'm sure your great plans for the day and your preparation for tomorrow will help mollify you somewhat...after that...there is always Black Friday for shopping!

Dannie, yes reruns. WGN and Comcast will replay stand-out Cubs and White Sox games from the prior season, usually around holidays. We don't get too many of them around here, so they may as well capitalize upon what we have.

I think I left you this quote before, but somehow it seems a perfect addition to this blog:

“People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." ` Rogers Hornsby
