Unconventional Holiday Tree

When people think of holiday trees, the first thing that comes to mind is usually a traditional Christmas tree. Nope, that isn't what this blog is about.

I briefly worked in Downers Grove, Illinois. Just a few blocks away from my office, you could find an unusual local landmark. The community held mixed feelings about this tree. Upon the death of a huge tree in the front yard, the owner converted it into a woman dressed in seasonal garb. I never knew the origin or reason for this structure, but thanks to an article in the Chicago Tribune, I now have answers.

I don't have any personal photos of the tree, but you can find some online. Several weeks ago, I posted a blog about Geocaching. Someone locally hid a cache in honor of this site. You can find photos posted on that page.

That is a very interesting idea! Who would have thought they could dress up/decorate a dead tree. :)

I can imagine how depressing the loss of the traditional Christmas tree can be in a place called 'Downers Grove' ;)

Sounds like a good topic for a photo contest!

It certainly is different! Maybe that should be a contest opportunity--holiday decorations. :)

It's actually a bit frightening.
