Ted Williams' Head

In Leslie's blog, she asked how everyone is connected on Humzoo. I didn't have any direct connection to anyone. I simply found the original daveheinzel.com through a friend and stayed ever since.

Since I have been blogging on Humzoo, I have received a few emails here and there about my avatar. Yesterday, ! asked if I was Ted Williams' Head on the other site. Yes, that'll answer all of those questions. The image I use for my avatar is an old photo of Boston Red Sox great, Ted Williams. Around the time I found daveheinzel.com, the Boston Red Sox were well on their way to winning the 2004 World Series. That was also in the wake of the news surrounding the death of Ted Williams, and the debate with his son, over the cryogenic freezing of his father's head.

That's a little bizarre, I know.

1) That would only be bizarre in any other country.

2) Well I for one wondered about your avatar. I didn't realize it was Ted Williams. Thanks for clarifying. I will put you and Biker Ben hanging from the same branch on the Heinzel/Deaton Humzoo tree dedicated to those that arrived on Humzoo from non relative & non friend avenues.

4) I love Teddy Ballgame. Some of my favorite photos at the Hall of Fame were of Ted in his army uniform, doing army stuff. I was fascinated with the old school ballplayers and how they were real role models, in baseball and in life.

Not too many professional athletes today would leave the pros and go fight a war.

5) Ted did miss substantial time during the prime of his playing career to fight. Just imagine his numbers if he didn't.

6) Yes, Bill, what was the conclusion to the fight over Ted Williams' body after his death? All I can remember is that his children were at odds.

8) This is the last I know of the Ted Williams' Head incident. Apparently, his son, John-Henry Williams, had his father's body transported to the Alcor Life Extension Facility for freezing. His head and body were separated and frozen. His son created quite a stir, because Ted's family claimed their father wanted to be cremated. The son received his father's "signature" on a dirty napkin claiming he wanted to be frozen. John-Henry also agreed to have this done. Things became complicated when the son died at 35 years of age. Weird story with no real ending.

9) Man, this is very weird. So Ted's head and body are still at the Alcor Life Extension Facility or did his family reclaim his body when John-Henry died?

10) Still there. His son's body, too.

11) Why would they separate his head from his body if he expects to be revived at some point? That is crazy!

I heard this horrible story on NPR about a guy who headed up some frozen-people-society, and he promised to freeze all these people when they died, but he ran out of money so he just basically let them rot, and then lied about it. It was a crazy story.

12) Betsy, that's a nasty story. Some people are simply cruel and disgusting.
