Are You LinkedIn?

For several years, I have actively used LinkedIn. Almost three years ago, I changed jobs and have assumed more business development responsibilities. Prior to my current position, I mainly focused on general marketing communications and design. I've been able to use LinkedIn as a tool to make connections through my colleagues in the park and recreation world. This site has allowed me to conduct research on people and other companies before I picked up the phone. It's allowed me to make traditional cold calls a little warmer.

I encouraged a few people at work to give LinkedIn a shot. Some responded well, while others who are resistant to social media refuse to participate. Some people actively engage in conversations through various groups while others simply treat it as a resume floating in cyberspace. I suggested that LinkedIn is a great method of looking at your professional contacts and looking at their other connections. I've been able to pick up the phone, or send an email, and say something like, "I see that you know so-and-so." It's been a great method of establishing business relationships.

Is anyone else on Humzoo using LinkedIn? If so, how have you used it successfully? I am looking for ways to take my company's listing and take it to another level.

I'm LinkedIn but I can't say I do anything with it other than a connection here or there and linking up with others when asked. Sounds like you have really made it work for you.

I am on LinkedIn, but haven't used it for anything. But I haven't had to change jobs yet.

I'm on it as an "arts and crafts professional"--nothing there for stay at home moms, lol. I use it primarily to keep in touch with co-workers from my old life (advertising)...but I really don't use it. Just about everyone on linkedin is also on facebook, so we keep in touch there.

My husband uses it, but more as a resume floater kind of thing. I like your idea of how it makes it easier to make connections with others though--I wonder if he's ever thought of using it in that way, to help further his career (he's anti-facebook--linked in is the only social media he uses).

A lot of the guys in my office are anti-Facebook, too. I try to tell them that LinkedIn is different.

I am signed up, but I have no idea what it is, or what i would do with it. I started getting requests a couple years ago and didn't want to be rude.
