We Could Have a Winner Tonight

Tonight, we could see the first playoff spot locked up for the 2010 Major League Baseball season. The Minnesota Twins enter today's action with a Magic Number of 2. If the Twins defeat the Cleveland Indians, and the Chicago White Sox lose to the Oakland Athletics, the Twins will secure the American League Central Division Title.

What looked like a division race that would run down to the wire, the Twins were fortunate that the Chicago White Sox are currently experiencing a seven game losing streak. Last Tuesday, the Twins started a three game series against the White Sox in Chicago. Entering that series, the Twins held a six game lead in the division. One week later, their lead is now 11 games.

The other divisional and wild card races are still too early to call. The next probable winners could be the Texas Rangers in the American League West, or the Cincinnati Reds in the National League Central. Both teams currently have their Magic Numbers set at 6.
