Netflix vs. The Local Video Store
Yesterday, on another blog, some Humzooers discussed Netflix. I have been a Netflix member since October 2006, and I love it. Right now, i have the one-at-a-time subscription, but I have considered upgrading.
Ever since college, I made regular trips to Blockbuster or Hollywood Video to pickup a recent release or an old classic. Since I registered with Netflix, Blockbuster is simply the building next to Portillo's on Route 83. All of the Hollywood Videos seem to be closing or converting portions of their locations into Starbucks.
The only problem I have encountered with Netflix is getting lost updating my queue. I'll spend 15 to 30 minutes sorting, rearranging, adding and simply wandering through the site. That's entirely my own fault, of course.
Right now, I have The Orphanage sitting next to my DVD player. After that, thanks to ozthegreat's recommendation, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.
We have Netflix and really love the convenience. We have the 2 movie a month deal, yet we sometimes have movies for a couple of months before we find time to watch them. I too have a problem with the Queue. It takes so long to search for something in the Queue and I have not found an easy way to find something to move it up to the top if you have already added it to your Queue, that is frustrating to me. Also, I heard that Hollywood Video along with some other companies are filing for bankruptcy.
I love LOVE Netflix too! I have the one-at-a-time deal right now. Sometimes it takes us months to even watch those. I have like 160 movies on my queue, so there is no way we will be able to watch all of them before we die. Plus, I keep adding more every week!
Another thing I like is that they have really obscure DVD's that most video stores would never carry. Like "Pittsburgh Penguins 10 Greatest Games" and random made-for-TV movies starring former cast members of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
OK, so I'm sad to say that I haven't joined the Netflix family, but with two small children, it's virtually impossible for me to sit through an entire movie without A) being interrupted 27 times or B) falling asleep. Maybe someday...
I kinda miss the funky smell of sweaty teenager at the old movie store though.
We've had Netflix almost since it started. But we hardly ever use it anymore. We usually just rent movies via iTunes. We are going to downgrade our account and use it mostly for the boys. We just don't watch as many movies as we used it (pre-kids). That said, I love it way more than dealing with any walk-in rental place.
I agree Angi!
I don't think I have rented a movie in at least a year. Hubby and I always say we are going to have a movie night but we usually fall asleep before the movie even begins....
I am hoping that since we act like we are senior citizens now, we will act like we are 30 when we actually get there...
Befor the Devil Knows your dead.... Great movie... Wonderful acting.. Phillip is an amazing actor. This moveie had me super stressed the whole time.... It was Great!!!!
The Orphanage is a great flick! I saw it in the theatre and was creeped out. I think the fun of going to the theatre plus the fact that there were only a few people there made it that much scarier.
