Just a matter of time

The moment I've been dreading finally happened. The price of cheap gas in Elmhurst is now over $4.00. I hate to mislead people, but this photo was taken on Wednesday morning. The price did drop on Saturday to $3.99, but this morning, it shot up to $4.09. This is the same Shell station I mentioned in a blog from late March.

I generally am not someone who attempts to place things in proper perspective, but I did mention in yesterday's blog that we spent most of Saturday in Lincoln Park. For the out-of-towners, that's in Chicago. On the way to the park, our friend Lisa had to fill up. The station we stopped at had 87 octane for $4.39. There's nothing quite like dropping $80 at the pump.

4) $4.50 by July first was the prediction. I think it will be before that. I started changing my driving habits. I wanted to drive 30 minutes away for a hike yesterday but chose to hike closer to home to save money. My husband and I are going to start carpooling to work this week. I wish I could bike to work, but it's 11 miles of brutal hills.

9) No...no more Shoos. I'm bad with kids :-) .

And, BB, a group of teachers was supposed to bike to work. I don't know if they're going to make it a regular thing or not. One of my colleagues in the English dept. bikes quite frequently. He had a cross country bike trip planned for this summer. He bikes from Rochester. Makes my seven mile trek look like peanuts.

10) I got my motorcycle license last year, but wasn't planning to get a bike for some months. With prices going where they are, and since I'm going to get one eventually anyways, I figure I might as well start saving on gas sooner rather than later. Bicycling to work isn't practical for me (plus, my last two bikes have been stolen in this town). I'll most likely get a used Honda Shadow Aero that I've got my eye on, but I'm still looking around a bit.
