MLB 2011 Game #7: Giants vs. Cubs

Tonight, I'm meeting several of my Elmhurst College friends to catch the game between the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. After losing both games of the doubleheader yesterday, all the Cubs can hope for is a split in the four-game series. There's an intriguing pitching matchup for tonight's game.

The Giants will send Tim Lincecum (6-6, 3.16 ERA) to the hill. During his start last Thursday, he struck out 12 batters. It was the fourth time his reached double digits this season. The Cubs will counter with Ryan Dempster (5-6, 5.31 ERA). His last start came in an interleague game against the Kansas City Royals where he took a no-decision in a game the Cubs eventually won 6-4. I haven't seen Dempster pitch yet this season, but I did see Lincecum make a start against the Brewers in Milwaukee on May 27.

Currently, the standings in the National League Central look like this:

Milwaukee Brewers 44-36 .550 ---
St. Louis Cardinals 42-38 .525 2.0 GB
Pittsburgh Pirates 40-38 .513 3.0 GB
Cincinnati Reds 41-40 .506 3.5 GB
Chicago Cubs 32-48 .400 12.0 GB
Houston Astros 28-52 .369 16.0 GB
