Roll out the barrel...and fireballs

Last night, I watched The King of Kong on G4. This is a documentary about the pursuit of the highest score on the 1980s arcade game, Donkey Kong. This film follows one man, Steve Wiebe, and his pursuit to establish a new high score for the game. The record was originally set back in 1982 by the mullet-haired Billy Mitchell.

If you ever reach a point where you think you've lost perspective on life, watch this movie. Everything will seem just fine.

1) My nephew's high school graduation was a week and a half ago, and afterwards we all went to a local pizzeria. The pizza was mediocre, but they had a dual arcade game - Galaga/Ms. Pac Man. Bill, do you remember my sister having Galaga at her pizza place? That might have been before your time there. That's a great game, although this particular one had a slow responding fire button. Or maybe my fire finger is just so far out of practice.

2) At first glance, I just assumed this blog would be about the Brewers... lol! Then I realized that while we had our first sweep since April, the Cubs have won an ungodly amount of games in a row and are something like 100-1 at Wrigley Field.

Congrats... by the way.

4) Great movie! Loved how they broke it down between Billy Mitchell as the token "bad guy" and Steve Wiebe as the down-on-his-luck underdog. By the end of the movie, I seriously *hated* Mitchell. He's so slimy, but such a terrific villain.

I hear they're making a semi-fictionalized major motion picture out of this story, which should be awesome.

5) Eric T. - I agree with everything you said. I loved the side story about the little old lady who loved Q-Bert. All of the cheesy 1980s music was great.

6) Moobi, I don't remember Galaga at the pizza place. I remember Golden Axe. I think that was the name. Didn't she have John Elway Football, too?
