MLB 2012 Game #1: Rockies vs. Brewers

After 195 days, we are headed to back to the site of the bloodbath that was Game 2 of the 2011 National League Championship Series (NLCS). The eventual World Series champions, the St. Louis Cardinals, drummed the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park 12-3. That was an ugly game to sit and experience live.

This afternoon, the Brewers play host to the Colorado Rockies. Today's game is a matchup between two second place teams. The Rockies are sitting at .500 (7-7) trailing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. They won the series opener on Friday night, but dropped the second game on Saturday. They will send Jeremy Guthrie (1-1, 7.79 ERA) to the mound this afternoon.

In the NL Central, the Brewers also find themselves in the second spot. Currently, they are one game under .500 (7-8) and three games off the pace of the St. Louis Cardinals. They will answer by sending Yovani Gallardo (1-1, 4.58 ERA) to the mound.

During pre-game festivities, Ryan Braun will receive his National League Most Valuable Player Award. During 2011, Braun played in 150 games. He hit 33 home runs, drove in 111 runs, had an OPS of .994, and hit .332.

Here are the current standings in the National League Central.

St. Louis Cardinals 10-5 .667 ---
Milwaukee Brewers 7-8 .467 3 GB
Pittsburgh Pirates 6-8 .429 3.5 GB
Cincinnati Reds 6-9 .400 4 GB
Houston Astros 5-10 5 GB
