In Game Six, Lanier fought back pain to pitch 5 1/3 innings of three-hit ball, surrendering one run, before yielding to Ted Wilks, who pitched 3 2/3 hitless innings to save the 3-1 victory that gave the Cardinals their second championship in three seasons.
