Wilhelm, whom the Philadelphia press tabbed Kize or Irv in light of the manager’s disdain for the name Kaiser, achieved a minor miracle in 1922 when he led the Phillies to a seventh-place finish (57-96). “Wilhelm must deserve full credit,” wrote Isaminger. “He made the most out of a team low in quality.” Nonetheless, Wilhelm was fired shortly after the season.
