Glavine was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 1984 draft. He reached the big league team in 1987 and eventually became one-fifth (along with Greg Maddux, John Smoltz and a revolving door of fourth and fifth starters) of the greatest pitching rotation of the 1990s. He took the mound every fifth day for the Braves from 1987 through 2002.
