Saw this at Crate and Barrel in Oak Brook last night. Exactly what happens when direct sunlight hits this thing?

I don't know, but I'm sure someone, somewhere, on the Interwebs will find out.

I have never seen Bubble Spheres before, but I will take a wild stab at an answer! If the bubbles contain a gas (say air), it will expand when heated, possibly fracturing the glass or causing it to explode.

Makes perfect sense to me.

My question is, what IS it? What does one do with a bubble sphere?

Especially since it costs $40. Yikes!

No odder than gazing balls that people put in their yard or garden. Never have made sense to me. Ask Carol--I ranted about them all the time in MN. Bubble spheres seem to make as much sense. I thought maybe they faded in direct sunlight like anything else warned to stay out of light. The exploding sounds more libeling. :) I can imagine someone trying to sue C&B for injuries and C&B can say "we told you not to do that!"
