Introducing Humzoo Video

The day is finally here. We've teased you long enough.

Today we are introducing a brand new feature called Humzoo Video. Now each member on Humzoo has the capability to share videos through their web site. Videos offer an enriched, live experience that doesn’t exist with blogs or photos.

Uploading Videos
Uploading videos has never been easier than with Humzoo Video. With two simple steps, and a brief conversion period, you'll be sharing videos with friends and family in no time. The uploader has a built-in progress bar so that you can tell how much of your video has been uploaded.

Notifications
We have modified our notification system to let you know when your video is ready to watch. When your video has completed processing, you will see a blue note across the top of your screen, just above our header. You can choose to click on the link to watch your video or ignore the message.

Enhanced Features
On the front page you will now see a rotating panel of the latest blog, photos and video. A new Videos column has been added to several sections of the Community and your Favorites have been moved to your Account Settings page to make room for videos.

To accommodate for the overwhelming amount of content that is added to Humzoo each day we have paginated the Community to allow visitors to go back in time to see what they missed.

Getting Here
Adding video sharing capabilities to Humzoo was part of the plan from the beginning. We knew a lot had to happen before this day would come so we launched Humzoo without it. We are very proud to have accomplished such a tremendous undertaking and feel that we have the best video service available. Did we mention that it's free? Now let's make some videos!

2) Super big happy day congratulations. I know you guys have worked hard to get here.

And EyePulp, I don't have any cat videos because I don't have a video camera. But if someone were to get me one I'd be happy to share with the world footage of the kitties wrestling.

3) I'm in the same room like 6 feet away and you can't just tell me this stuff? You post here? You're like a SallyBot. A robot programmed by a deranged group of kitty/monkey/llama/pirate people.

4) Yay!! Mr. Shoo has about ten million hours of dog video. He'll be so excited he can share it with Humzoo.

7) D&D rock again! This addition is even better than getting Humzoo stickers in the mail (no offense, Nancy!). Now, if I only had a MAC to watch them! One of these days. I'm looking for a new job--anyone hiring obsessive bakers??

Great job, guys. I know you put in some long hours and missed a lot of family time for this one. We do appreciate the effort and will try to make good use of it and keep a smile on our face for what we have received!

8) I honestly don't know what I did. I uploaded the video and got the message that it was ready, but when I go to play it, it just shows a few frames for several seconds each. The video was in .avi format. It played on my computer before I uploaded it. I even deleted it and uploaded it again...What did I do wrong, D&D? (I'm assuming it's something I'm doing because "Tech-savvy" is not my middle name...)

Edit: Magically, I leave a comment saying it doesn't work and all of a sudden it works...You guys must be amazing!!

11) Mrs Shoo, It did the same thing for me when I tried to watch it before the whole movie had finished uploading. When it was all cached I could watch it fine....oh except the first time round there was no sound.....weird....and the "singing"

12) Sorry to hear you guys had some weird issues. Denny and I have tested the whole process literally hundreds of times. I'd say out of those hundreds, we DID manage to have at most one video each that actually worked as expected. So for a good chance at having one video show up, try adding like 100.

Kidding aside, we will be fixing up any issues that we can repeat as soon as possible. I have not noticed the issue Mrs. Shoo and George mentioned, but I'll keep my eyes open for it.

13) I looked at the conversion logs and everything seems to have gone smoothly for your video Mrs. Shoo.

I am not clear on the issue yet. Sounds like the video was ready (you get the blue bar notification and can see the player) but the video didn't play correctly? Is that what's happening?

15) I'm having trouble viewing the videos. If I logout and then log back in, occassionally they'll work, but otherwise it's just a black box. This happened at home on IE & Firefox and now at work on IE.

16) Nevermind, it seems to be working for me now.

17) I think you'll find that D&D were busy not caring anyway.

18) i didnt realise that there was a page on this, because i already sent a question on the contact page.. but.. my phone is a somewhat decent camera and that is how i take my videos.. and they are 3gp format, is there are way to add this to the list of supported video files??

19) Denny, this is a little late, but yes, that's exactly what would happen. I got the notification it was ready. I went to my page to play it, but it just showed a few random frames for several seconds each with no sound. It doesn't do it all the time. If I reload the page a couple times, it ends up working, but I haven't had problems with anyone else's video.

20) I guess the audio isn't working for our friends who are using PC's. Any suggestions? I know you guys have been killing yourselves to get this up and going so this totally not a complaint.

21) Nevermind, saw Mrs. Shoo blog.
thanks Keep up the good work.

22) The guys' suggestion would probably be for the PC users to get macs anyway. Not bad advice anyway.

23) I agree, George, but still working on the finances for that. I will be happy then, though. Tired of crashing my connection when I get close to one of those videos spinning. I've had to resort to looking at the comments by section to avoid the "bombs" with the video. I'm sure it is something here but it's frustrating to be limping in Humzoo-zone.

24) Crap, Video for me only worked for a day or so after I updated my Flash player. Now, I'm back to just seeing a black box. Any suggestions?

25) Dang dude, that's no good. If you don't mind, tell us what operating system you're using, what browser, and if at all possible, what Flash version you have (I think you can right-click our player and select something like "About Flash Player...".

That might help us to try and replicate the problem. I'll make Denny purchase and set up a system identical to yours. Then he will sell it in craigslist.

26) Dang, now it is working for me. I swear it had only worked the day that you posted your 4th of July video the second time, and hasn't worked since for me at home and at work. I'll let you know if i get blackballed again.
Mark   Wednesday, July 9, 2008

27) That's interesting Mark. We changed the video processing code right before I uploaded that Fourth of July video for the second time. I wonder if you can see videos since that date, but if any old ones will be black. Let me know if you see a pattern there.
Dave Heinzel   Wednesday, July 9, 2008

28) Nevermind, it stopped working again. I was able to watch your piano video, and I clicked on a few other video pages, and they worked. Now they're back to the black boxes. My version of Flash is 9,0,124,0 and I am using Vista with Firefox 3.0. My IE is 7.0.6001.18000, and video isn't working there, either.
