Introducing the Community

Quickly we'd like to thank everyone for making our first week a huge success. You shattered our expectations and published some amazing content. Many of you helped flush out some early problems with the software, and everything that we have been made aware of has been fixed. If you're experiencing trouble with any aspect of the site, please let us know via our contact page.

There was so much new content this first week that we had a hard time keeping track of it all. Many of you said the same thing.

Today we are introducing a new section on Humzoo - the Community. The Community (accessible via a tab on the main page) is designed to give you an overview of all new activity on the site. You can choose between a few different views: What's New, What's Hot and Comments.

What's New - use this mode to see Blogs, Photos and People, with the newest at the top. As items get outdated, they will move on down the page and out of view. What's Hot - this mode will show you the blogs and photos that have generated the most discussion over the past day or so. There's also a column of the people whose sites have been most active recently. Comments - separated into two columns, you can view the latest comments made to all blogs and photos anywhere on Humzoo.

The Community is a great way to see what's going on across Humzoo. But you might not want to see what's going on with everyone's site. Say, for example, you only have a few sites that you like to monitor. We developed a system that will let you do exactly that.

Introducing Favorites

Now on Humzoo you can add people to your Favorites list and monitor their sites exclusively in the Community section. This feature is available to registered users only, and you must be logged in to access your Favorites list.

To add a person to your Favorites list, visit their site and go to either their blog or photo section. In the right column, click on the "Add to Favorites" button. A new button (marked "Favorite!") will indicate that this person is now on your Favorites list. To view or edit your Favorites list, go to the Favorites section of the Community. If you have at least one Favorite, you will see a small icon in the header that will take you directly to your Favorites list.

Favorites are totally private. You cannot see someone else's list, and you will not know if other people mark you as their Favorite.

Notifications

One more thing that we added over the weekend is a notification system that will let us send out messages to our registered users. If there is a new notification, you will see a yellow note across the top of your screen, just above our header. You can choose to read or ignore the message, and it will go away until there is something new.

Please let us know what you think about all these changes. We're trying to make this site as totally awesome as possible, and it's critical that we receive as much feedback from you as we can. Send us a note through our contact page, or leave a comment below.

Hey guys, love the site, and the Community page addition is freakin sweet. It definitely makes the site more "three dimensional". Is there any chance yall have plans to add a blog roll-esque section on a user's home page?

We are so glad everyone likes the Community page! We were really blown away by how interactive everyone was and felt like it was a necessity going forward. Glad everyone finds it useful.

Mark, we may in the future consider adding a blog roll-type feature to the users home page but for now we decided to keep that list private (ie. Favorites).
