Update?

I'm guessing this will be an update on my busy summer.

Not sure if some of you remember about my brother, but his deployment date is coming up VERY FAST. Another two weeks and he's flying to Iraq. So this is what's happening: He and his wife Sherry are flying out from St. Louis (causing my mother and I to pick their car up from either the hotel or the airport). This will happen this week. Then in about a week to two weeks, my mom, dad, and I are flying out there to Fort Lewis, Washington. We'll stay there for about 5-7 days, then my parents are flying back. The Army, who is SO disorganized, can't keep his car anywhere, so here comes the best part. Sherry and I are roadtripping it back from Fort Lewis, Washington to Springfield, Illinois. OH YEAH!!!

We want to stop in San Fransisco, but also go to Yosemite and southern Colorado for a free stay at my aunt's house. Then who knows! Any ideas? Feel free to add on some more spots. =]

4ht of July wasn't bad, even though it rained for most of the day. The family and I went to St. Louis, and let's just say some people....wow. Ridiculously hilarious. Loved the fireworks, loved the food despite the prices, and all in all...I enjoyed it. A lot.

FYI, court date's coming up. Scared beyond belief. Even though it'll only be like 5 minutes. Oh, and getting a job at Sonic hopefully! I just want to ask for prayers for my brother and his deployment, for my family to be strong when he's gone, and give us hope. Thank you guys so much!

That's a long road trip. Are you sure you want to do SF and Yosemite? You could get to Portland and then over to Salt Lake and cut days off that already long trip!

Having family deployed is hard. My brother-in-law was in Afghanistan for a year while his wife was pregnant. Carrie's cousin was also in Iraq for a year during which time he found out that his wife wasn't really his wife because she was actually already married to someone else. Thank God they both made it back unharmed though.
I hope things go just as well for your brother.

She might want to find out before he's deployed, so he can at least celebrate the joy in finding out firsthand. And have fun during your roadtrip - I've traveled IL to San Fran four times; so fun! Don't forget Monterey Bay, which is only a little further South than SF on the coast - it's worth a stop, in my opinion. Also, Lake Tahoe & Vegas, then Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon, if you've never been. You won't regret those.

Depending on how long you want your trip to be, I would advise against going farther south than SF. Don't get wrong, it's a beautiful place (I might be biased since that's where I live). But there are *million* side trips you could make. And if you make them all you'll never get home. Really consider how many miles you want to travel per day. And do you just want to breeze through these places or do you want to stop and enjoy them? Plan, plan, plan! And be flexible in the moment.

Thanks for the advice, that's a smart thing to think about. I'll talk with her about this roadtrip and see where she wants to go. But I think we mainly want to enjoy most of the sites we go to. We basically want to go somewhere near the Grand Canyon.
