Attention Betsy

This is my first official humzoo blog. Betsy has been harassing me to open a humzoo account for weeks now. I've been meaning to do it, i've just been insanely busy. I'm trying to figure out everything on this account so please forgive me if something looks jacked up. :) A little about me, I live in Springfield IL. I work at Horace Mann as an IT Quality Assurance Analyst, I love my job!! I have a wonderful, amazing boyfriend named Brian. We are currently in the process of working on selling my house, it's taking forever and i'm sure that will be much of blog topics in the future. Brian has three wonderful daughters that I love spending time with. Onto my blog....

I've had a sore throat for days now, the only thing that makes it feel better is hot tea, thank god for hot tea!
Yummmm- this tea is THE BOMB!!!

I have this slight obsession with bugs, Betsy I know you think that is weird, but hey- everyone has their 'thing'. I bought a butterfly house and purchased some larvae via the internet a few weeks ago
Look at these little guys when I first got them on 4-2-08

Man they get big quickly! 4-06-08

I wanted to take them out of the jar and let them crawl on my hands, but I refrained- I didn't want to kill them, Brian's kids have been watching them grow with me. 4-14-08

They finally formed their cocoons, it's amazing how they do that. 4-16-08

I moved the cocoons to the butterfly house when Brian had the girls so they could see it. 4-19-08

We have a butterfly!!! This was the only one that hatched as of Sunday. When I woke up this morning four out the five were out. I didn't have a chance to take pictures this morning because I was pressed for time before work. This weekend Brian has the girls so I plan on having them release them. I'll get more pictures before we let them go because they are so pretty!

Next project, Raise-A-Frog kit!! YYYEEESSSS!!! :)

4) Welcome old neighbor, Humzoo is a great time. The plastic cups are by the door, give Denny $5 for the keg. I'll be organizing a beer pong tournament later on tonight. Dave will be having a Mountain Dew chugging contest here in a few.

I didn't know you were at HM. You probably work with some of my coworkers from msf&w.

5) Cool butterfly project! I'm going to show your blog to my two-year-old son, Galvin, in the a.m. - he'll be sure to point out that caterpillars eat their weight and more in food every day, and he'll love the "chris-a-lis" part, too!

Thanks for the blog, and welcome!

9) Welcome aboard, Carrie. Great blog, great project!! From the underside of the wing of the butterfly in the last picture, it looks like it could be a Painted Lady. Was there any information on the species of the larvae when you purchased them? I will be looking forward to "frog raising" updates.

The butterflies are wonderful-Pegi's sister Pam looks for milkweed when we are out cutting vine-she told me that is where the buterflies like to make their cocoons. Welcome to Humzoo!!!

13) Hello everyone, thanks for all of the comments!! I bought the larvae at www.carolina.com and they are painted lady butterflies. I will also be purchasing the frog kit from them too. They have so much fun stuff to purchase on their website, i'll have little projects going on for years. Tonight I am going to Brian's house so I will take more pictures of the butterflies and post them.
