I'm Here!

I'm finally settled (for the most part) into my new Cary apartment! My first week of work was last week, and I'm definitely hitting the ground running there. I've already killed one hanging plant and pulled out in front of my neighbor while backing out of my parking spot, but those are the only snafoos so far.

I love, love, love it here. It's hotter than hell right now, but most of my day is spent indoors. I've voluntarily ventured out a few times for early morning walks, and it's a new phenomenon for me that it's 80 degrees at 6:30 in the morning down here. You North Carolinans sure don't mess around with summer!!

My apartment is awesome. I have pictures, but I'm not completely done decorating yet, so I'll post them soon. I live about 10 minutes from work, door-to-door, and I am within 20 minutes of some very cool things to do/see. Things that I didn't have in Springfield, and will miss when I move back to Peoria:

1. Trader Joe's
2. The Raleigh Farmer's Market
3. Whole Foods (just the sushi - I can't afford anything else there)
4. Chick-Fil-A
5. Southpoint Mall in Durham
6. The beach! (Okay, so this is more than 20 minutes away, but when the fam was still down here moving me in, we took a day trip to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach, and other than $20 parking for the day, it was fantastic.)

These are just the things I've discovered so far. I do miss Steak-n-Shake and Darcy's, but other than that, I think I'm set!

Other than the heat and humidity--sounds like you have landed in a great place! Glad you are enjoying it. I love TJs too and would definitely miss it if I didn't have one close like here.

Looking forward to seeing how the inside is done too.

We have Steak-n-Shakes in NC, you just have to go to the mall usually to find one. Yeah Wilmington is great, Denny and I went to college at UNCW. You will really like Raleigh, and they always get really good bands in that area. Hope the job goes well! Chick-Fil-A is the BEST!

Casey, be sure to go to Chapel Hill and eat at the Rat (Rathskellar)!!!! It's on Franklin Street right in the heart of town and anybody there can tell you where it is. You haven't lived till you've eaten at the Rat!! And while you're there, please tell my ole alma mater UNC hello for me!! "You can't get to heaven in a red canoe "cause God's favorite color is Carolina blue!!!!!"

Sounds like you're doing well down South; I am envious of the beach situation, no matter if it's more than 20 minutes away or not...at this point, I'm more than 20 HOURS away. *sigh*

Oh, and if you want a Chick-Fil-A while living in P-town, you can travel to either Watterson @ ISU in Normal or work for "The Farm" (State Farm) here in Bloomington--they have one at the South Campus location. And we do have a really good Farmer's Market every Saturday Downtown, too, just not year 'round, of course.

Good luck and happy summer!!

Welcome to N. Carolina Casey. So glad you are settling in well and bearing the heat. It usually doesn't get this hot until early July. We're definitely going to have to get together while you are working in NC. How long is your project again? And when does work officially start?

Thank you for the welcome everyone! Denny, I'm here for a year and a half. I started work last week. I have to say that even though it is hot here, I'm kind of liking it. We had an extremely long winter in the midwest, so this is a welcome change.

And !, I have the Rat on my list!! I made a list of places to go/see, and I put it on there after you recommended it. I'll be sure to let you know once I've been there. You said to get the spaghetti, right?

Are you originally from Peoria? If so, that is where I am from, too.

my whole meal plan went to Chick-Fil-A when i went to ISU.
Sometimes I would get white rice from Panda Express, get a grilled chicken sandwich from Chick, and then some ranch dressing. Throw the bread away, cut up the chicken in the rice, cover with ranch dressing...Yummy!

Yea you are finally moved in. I can't wait to see the pics you did for your wall. It sounds like you are going to have great fun. Maybe we should plan a girls road trip out to see you.

My dining dollars at EIU always went to Chick-Fil-A and the grill. It's just amazing. (Of course I skipped the Subway. Who wanted healthy on a Sunday morning after spending Friday nights the way college students often do...)

Jenn - I am originally from Springfield, but I spent last summer in Peoria and will move back there for my next rotation. I like Peoria a lot - it's a nice town.

Casey, the fun is just beginning in Raleigh for the fall. NCSU has its first home game there at Carter-Findley Stadium on September 6,2008. They play at home five out of the first six weeks of the season. Coming October,16,2008 the Great North Carolina State Fair begins and lasts 12 days. In October the Carolina Hurricanes begin season play at thr RBCCentern next door to CFS. If you are in Meseums, there are the following types: Arts(on Blue Ridge Rd.),Natural History (downtown, with Dead Sea Scrolls othere until December 28,2009) and the North carolina History Meseum( on Jones Street, downtown). My wife and I are not into eating in Raleigh, must anymore; however, Two Guys on Hillsbough St. across from NCSU is known for its Pizza.

Nancy, I have some sad news for "The Rathskellar" is no more. It was a fun place to go, wasn't it? I believe finances and sanitary conditions caused it to close.

Jenn: Are you an employee of the "Black and Yellow" Machine? Go to my site "BeanCounter37, or Hawkwolf and look at the pictures.

Nancy: Contrary to what you have been told, on the eighth day, God corrected the "Chapel-Hill mistake, by creating N.C. State" I saw last night on the news that freshmen were unloading on campus at NCSU, yesterday, and their number was 4,700, and tey stated the Total Student Body Count is 32,000. I don't the hill has that many.

Casey: The Wilmington area, along with the Brunswick County beaches are two hours away because the speed limit is 70 mph. Be careful because those black and silver cruisers are on the roads like bees at a beehive.

Isn't Tony Romo, an EIU grad? He keeps slipping up he is going to be unemployed in "BIG D".

I went Meet The Pack Day, today, and it took me 52 minutes to get from CFS to my home, in the past the time has exceded 75 mins, going thru Clayton.

Casey: Maybe I haven't said Welcome To North Carolina. Yesterday before I went to Meet The Pack Day, I stoped for lunc at one of the Chargrill Restaurants in the Raleigh area. The original Char-Grill is on Hillsborough, near Fayetteville Street and Glenwood South. It will compare with any hamburger, you have ever eaten. The original began business in 1957. If you want good Eastern NC Pit Cooked Barbeque, go to Goldsboro, on Highway 70E, and go to Wilburs. If you do work for Cat, in Clayton there is BBQ place, called McColls, it is about a C Grade as far has Quality. SCNB is a stop gap place, until you can get to a better one.

Enjoy your stay in "Cary Carolina", RTP is what has made Cary grow so much. It has been said that once you put your feet on North Carolina, you will never want to leave. Another note,@" of snow brings the Triangle Area to a Sqeking Halt; however in 2001 we had 20" at one time. Hurricanes and Tropical Storms stop the area quicker than any thing. The best weather forecast is on WRAL-TV ( http://www.wral-tv.com).
One is projected here Tuesday or Wednesday, and Offical Fishell will know.
