Watch out, NC!

Big news, folks - I got an official offer from Caterpillar today. Woohoo! The job is in a communications rotational program. If I accept, I'll spend a year and a half in Cary, NC, and another year and a half back in Peoria working at corporate. I've been interning there for almost a year, and I really like the work. I hear the Cary facility is really nice, and I'd get to live outside of the midwest for a while - major plus.

So all you NC folks (I know there's a large NC Humzoo following), I need to know all there is to know about Cary and the surrounding area. They'll fly me down there in a couple weeks for apartment hunting, but if you know any areas to stay away from let me know!

Muchas gracias for the help, and Dave and Denny - this means I can afford to continue my humzoo subscription next year. YES.

1) Awesome! Congrats Casey. Caterpillar is lucky to have you. I don't know where Cary is, and I'm too lazy to open up Google Maps. Ok ok, I'll open it up... Looks like it's by Raleigh. We drive by there on the way to the beach. I'm sure plenty of NC Humzooers can fill you in, but I'm guessing it's a fine location. Have a good time!

2) I can check with a co-worker who lives in Raleigh area (might even live in Cary!) and see if he has any recommendations. I've moved a few times in my life so I appreciate the need to get info and get in the right areas of the town or city for safety as well as pleasure.

3) Cary is a very nice town. I had a bunch of friends from college that lived there. It is the more yuppie part of the Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill). But there is so much to do. Plus you would only be 2 hours from us, and we are a whole lot of fun!

4) Hi Casey! Cary is okay in my book. I went to college with a few folks from there and one grew up on an artist commune there. YAY for HIPPIES! And Chapel Hill is right there so you can go to Heels games and make me jealous. NC is great and you will be right in the middle! 3 hours or less to the beach and the same for the mountains. Who could ask for anything more! Come visit Charlotte anytime. Practice this word: Ya'll.

7) OMG! Casey, if you know Josh Palmer/CAT, he and his wife Erin are moving out to NC too! Erin is a very good friend of mine and will miss her very much. If you cross paths, tell them I said hi!
