My First Feature-Length Movie This is definitely my most ambitious goal to date, but I decided on a whim the other day that by the end of 2009, I need to finish a feature-length movie. I do not have a story, I don't know any professional actors, I have no budget, I have a distinct lack of freetime -- all things that motivate me even more somehow.
The first step is the story. I bought a notebook that I will try to have with me at all times so I can jot down story or character ideas. There are two or three movie ideas that I have been kicking around in my head, but I need to focus on something simple and start on an outline. From there I will fine-tune the story, eventually ending up with a full script and storyboard. Then it's time to scout locations, find people willing to help, beg and borrow materials and props, give Courtney enough back rubs to make up for time away from the house -- that kind of thing.
I know I have my work cut out for me, more so than I probably even pretend to realize. But there's not point waiting. My passion is movies, and I've always wanted to make them. I'm not getting any younger, so I better get to it. What's the worst that can happen?
Dave, sounds exciting. You could secure my acting services for about 85K, so long as we're not talking about a Blair Witch type movie (then the fee goes up). Good advice from Scott. Just don't beat yourself up if its Dec. 31, 2009 and the goal isn't completely finished.... maybe give yourself a mini-goal, like have a story, script, and cast by July 1, or something. Then you can evaluate where to go from there. Then again, what takes longer- writing the story, or, actual filming?
I have every confidence you will do something great with this. Can't wait to see the finished product one day.
"I'll have what she's having!"
The trivia nerds will get it.
Dave, we know you have the potential--just need to narrow down your choices and find the pieces and parts. I watched a goofy Steve Martin movie called Bowfinger and for some reason kept thinking about you and your videos. Maybe you need to do like him and start a box in the attic socking away a dollar a week (maybe more--he started at 10) to pay for your movie. :) We'll be looking for updates as they come (and of course more great videos!)
Dave, if you need to harm any cats during the making of your film, I have a few I'd like to offer.
JDI and myself will do what we can to help. Whatever you and the family need.

It's awesome. You can even use it for storyboarding and planning, etc.
Also, I'd love to know your compression/video hosting techniques on your website--your videos always look very clear, uncompressed, and bedazzled! :-)
BEST of luck with the feature!
