Friday, January 1st, 2010First Blog of 2010... ...and possibly the last, with my track record. But it's a start.
So, tonight I'm sitting on the couch with Courtney, eating cheese & crackers and watching the Rose Bowl on tv. The kids are away at a sleepover, and the house is quiet. It's lovely.
Earlier tonight I watched Blue, a French Film by the Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski. A coworker of mine has a movie poster for this film in his office, and I was able to find it at the library (free movies!). I rented the whole trilogy (Blue, White and Red) and hope to watch the other two movies before they're due on Monday.
It was a really nice movie. It's such a completely different pace and style from the movies I've been accustomed to watching lately. It was a little abstract, very beautiful and somewhat mysterious.
Another movie I checked out from the library at the same time as these is Cache, which also happens to be a French film, and co-stars the main actress of Blue - Juliette Binoche. I wasn't aware of this connection until I started watching Blue. Cache is an awesome movie. It has a very compelling plot that is intentionally left somewhat open-ended. It's nice to see movie that gives the viewer the opportunity to form their own conclusions but not leave them completely in the dark. The cinematography was beautiful, and the audio is just outstanding. I would love to see how they assembled the soundtrack for this movie.
Other than watching obscure movies, I have been working on a new web site for the Springfield Public Schools. I am basically re-doing all the code that runs the site, all the way from scratch. It's a months-long project that should result in a much more powerful and flexible site that will enable online interaction like we've never had before on our site. I can't wait :)
Film Club starts back up this Tuesday. We are having an audition night, or try-outs, or whatever you want to call it. Anyone interested in joining the club (including current members) are required to audition. They can create a video, sing a song, play an instrument, read a screenplay - anything. The only rule is that it can't be longer than 60 seconds. I can't wait to see what people come up with. We'll post some or all of the auditions on our Film Club's podcast during the week.
So that's basically all I've been up to. Well, I've also been working on some original music, designing built-in cabinets & shelves for the living room, developing a short animation and am considering going pro at Ripsticking. This should be a fun year.
I'm gonna check out this films too. I love french films, and fries.
