This is a camera crane I built for a scene in a movie that I'm working on with a group of students in the district that I work for. Long story short, we've been planning a movie for Apple's Insomnia Film Festival, which is a contest requiring teams to shoot a movie over a 24 hour period, starting this Saturday morning.
Thursday night, about 36 hours before "go" time, Apple announced that they were postponing the contest due to "unforeseen challenges." They hope to host the contest after Christmas.
The story our team came up with is dependent on it being fall outside, so we can't wait to shoot our movie. We are proceeding as planned, contest or not.
Anyway, I have spent hours working on this crane, and I finished it tonight. The best thing is that it works perfectly. Well, as perfectly as a crane like this can work.

1) Very impressive. Sorry the contest is delayed. I still say make more and send one to Dane's! Great job with the crane. Hope we see a video of how it functions at some point. Can't wait to see the video too!!

2) That's really neat how that all came together. And the sample video looked really good. I'm anxious to see the contest video now.

3) What a bummer that they would postpone the contest now....after you and Steve M. and the kids have spent so much time planning this and making arrangements with various people and buildings and after I collected four big bags of dry leaves yesterday so you would have them for your pile since it's supposed to rain today!! That's great that you're willing to go ahead with this for the kids' sake (and your sake too!). I'm sure they were very disappointed. They're lucky to have you! Dad and I will be there at 10 tomorrow morning....or earlier if you need us. Can't wait to be in another Heinzel production!

5) Nancy speaks as she were still teaching. I have with some of my friends that have been educators, they always remain Teachers. I have a Sunday School Teacher, who still uses the Bible, a piece of Paper, and a Pencil to conduct class. His method of teaching drives me nuts.
