See You Next Fall
A group of District 186 students, along with myself and Steve Minch, made this movie for the Apple Insomnia Film Festival. Apple ended up canceling the contest, but we made the movie anyway. We had so much fun making it that we decided to make a student film club, to meet weekly and keep producing movies throughout the school year. I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more about that soon.

I'm super proud of the kids for everything they did to make this movie. I was lucky to work with such a talented and dedicated group of kids, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

1) That's AWESOME! I'm so glad that you did this with the kids from SHS, Dave, sharing your talent and love for movies. So, so wonderful!!

PS. Didn't you show this last night? How did that go??

3) YAY! Nice Work! Why did Apple cancel the contest? That seems kind of lame? Can't wait to see what is next for this talented group.

4) Wow, top notch! Congrats to you and all the students for an awesome film. Apple sure missed out. The jib really gave it a professional edge, especially the part where he runs around the corner!

Technical question: the panning from the leaves to the black and white shot of the kids running. Was that masking or two shots (one using a green screen)? Looked awesome.

Where did the music? Kind of sounds similar to the Gel Gems jiggle but could easy be DH & Co.

5) Great work, Dave & Co. I loved the music. I was disappointed the scene of ! and stheinz running in the mob didn't make the cut. Then again, there's always the sequel.

9) After Nino came to in the alley, he then sees a bunch of posters with his picture on them and then jogs by a car with a picture poster on the windshield - the next scene shows him with his picture plastered across the whole side of a building in the background. Great effect!! Great job, Jib Pirates!!

15) Dave, that was awesome. One of the best short films I've seen in a long time. Love each one of your film projects. And the students in this did a great job, as well. Keep up the good work! Keep that creative film spirit alive here in Springfield!

19) Amazing! I watched the production video first and I think appreciated the process and editing more having seen the "making of the movie". I love that on DVDs. Always amazing how much work goes into such a short film. Well done, Dave. Well done students. We look for more to come from so much talent and energy!

23) Dave and crew,

Great job! Dave...I did get your message and would have LOVED to shoot this for a story. It was too bad we had a really busy news weekend. I was actually shocked you still had my work digits! Sweet. In the future keep me informed. I would love to highlight this club in a story! So let me know when the next production is taking place, I'll make Minch be my camera guy.

24) Thanks everyone for the awesome comments. And Ben - no problem, you'll be the first on my list when we shoot the next movie. I want to get the next one going as soon as possible, but most likely we won't shoot until after Christmas. Who knows though... :)

Check out this week's edition of the Illinois Times for all the details. Special thanks to a certain Film Club mom who strong armed Dave into making the entry deadline.
