The Yellow Car
This is my entry for a video competition sponsored by a local credit union. The guidelines were pretty simple: three minutes or less, can be about anything and has to incorporate the name of the credit union and their slogan.
The idea for this popped into my head during dinner one night out of nowhere, and it was too good to NOT make. Ethan seemed excited to help, but several times the project seemed doomed when he wouldn't cooperate at all. The car lot scene was the worst. We spent a couple hours (with my dad as the salesman) in the hot sun trying to get him to cooperate, but he would not. I had to reshoot that scene the next day. Rather than make my dad sit through all that again, I put on my fancy shoes and played that part.
If you have a good set of speakers, you might notice several layers of sounds. I have never spent so much time on a soundtrack (including sounds, music and ambience). This story required it though, seeing how there's no dialog. The whole video part was done long before I recorded any sounds. None of the sounds you hear in the movie were from the actual recordings. Many of them came from my living room on a late Sunday night.
Anyway, hope you enjoy. I am very happy with the result, which is not typical for me. Hopefully it will motivate me to keep working on more video projects. The winners of the competition will be announced sometime in August.

Oh and good job to Ethan and the other stars. Ethan did a really good job and I am sure his incorporation at times was just part of being a kid. You should have had twins, then you could swap them out when one of them was acting up.
I am really impressed that Ethan is mature enough to be allowed to roam Washington Park and Downtown Springfield by himself. SUCH A BIG BOY!
I hope you win! When is the deadline for the contest, and when do you find out the results?
What's the prize? A free credit union? Being pre-approved for a loan? Shares of Mattel stock?
make more videos for fun...its so entertaining to watch!
Other than that, rad job Mr. Spielberg. Well done. If it doesn't win, there better be a friggin Kubrick or Ridley Scott helming the winning entry.
Ethan did a great job--even if he was a little temperamental. Aren't all stars and actors??
Can't wait to hear the outcome of the competition. Regardless of their vote (they'll be crazy if it doesn't win!), Humzoo definitely puts a blue ribbon on it!
it's fantastic. so sweet. i love, love, love the drawings of the yellow car signed by ethan near his bed while he sleeps! seriously fantastic. you are so talented and so insightful. thanks so much for sharing!
I dropped off the DVD to the credit union in Decatur today. They will have a screening in August showing the top 20 movies, and that's where they'll announce the winner (not sure of date yet). Top prize is $1500, and they will give a flip video camera to two other movies for best director and best actor.
I love Ethan's flinging of the signed contract at the bank--he did that with such flair! I see a future with him as a child star and you as the director/producer.
This video is awesome! Great job!
