Help With a Kindergarten Project

This month's home-school project is to invent something using "reusable household items" (list includes egg cartons, paper towel rolls, rubber bands, paper plates, jar lids, clay, foil, tape, etc)

"Try to think of a unique project that will solve a problem, consider the resources in your invention kit, then sketch a picture of what the whatchamacallit might look like. Then write its characteristics below to help you progress through the planning stage of your invention." Next, "list the materials you will need to create your product. Draw a diagram of your invention and label each part." Once this is completed, we'll be ready to build it.

"We will be exhibiting and sharing our inventions for our family and friends on Wed. May 4 from 6:30-7:30"

So I need help! I really don't consider myself to be a creative person. I like to scrapbook, but that's about as far as I go. Any ideas about what we can make? If it were just making anything out of household materials, I'd be fine (we could make animals out of paper plates and water bottles)...it's the "solve a problem" that is throwing me for a loop.

Dang! Kindergarten! Let me think...
