Back on the Bike
I am out of excuses. I can't think of anymore reasons not to start riding my bike again. I have already used the "its too hot" excuse. Or "I just haven't had time". And my most recent one was that my tachometer isn't working, which is still true. But that could be fixed with a quick trip to the bike store. Shoo has even called me out on it a recently.
I really do love my bike and getting out for a few rides a week, its just the initial motivation that always gets the best of me when it comes down to it. Those days are behind me. I am going for a bike ride tonight and I don't plan to stop there.
Last fall I bought a new road bike. I totally love the bike. Its really a dream bike. Light as a feather, fast as hell and it came in a sweet blue color.
I bought some of those sweet-ass, sexy spandex bike shorts and a couple jerseys. The jerseys really do help keep you cool during the ride and the spare padding in the shorts is a must for the long rides. I also got some bike shoes that clip onto the pedals which increased my speed and help steady my cadence.
I started using Dave's bike tool to track my progress and at one point I actually made it up to 42 miles in one ride. I covered 5 cities on two hours with a friend one Saturday morning last fall. It was a great feeling.
I have a long way to go before I get back to that level of endurance but I am finally looking forward to it again. I'm going to the bike store during lunch today to get the tachometer fixed and plan to go on my first ride tonight. So long Unmotivated Denny, nice knowing ya pal. I'm back on the bike!

Too hot? It's flippin' humid as heck and hot here. I rode 28 miles last night. No excuse sir. Pop on Queen because "I just wanna ride my bicycle" and "fat bottom girls make the world go round."
Nice bike. By the way, it's way too clean.
I just returned from the local bike shop where I bought the bike and the bike computer. They did some diagnostics on my computer and couldn't figure out why the odometer isn't working. Turns out its under warranty so I came home and called Sigma. They said the replacement process is about 2 weeks. Well that would totally derail my motivation to get back on the bike.
So I called my local bike shop back and spoke with the owner. I proposed that they handle the warranty for me and give me a new computer in the meantime. He agreed. WOOT!
They are super cool people with good prices too. So if you live in the Charlotte area and are in the market for a new bike check out Spirited Cyclist in Huntersville, NC. Its a small bike shop, one location, one owner. Support the little guys.
Can't wait for the videos on the bike rides! :)
Tomorrow is the day.
Linda, I'm also happier being cold. My theory is you can always put on more clothes.
Why didn't you make a horror flick with the video camera while you were unmotivated to ride?? Where is your video-vation?
I have neglected my mountain bike for about a year now, so I really need to get on it.
