Almost time for a biobreak. Guess I'll wake Niki up with the rumble strip.

In case you didn't know the mighty panthers beat Washington in an exhibition game, by the score of 47-3.

28) Right now we are getting 47.4 mpg which is slightly less than on the way up. Probably cause we have Mia with us.

That is awesome about the Panthers, we have been somewhat disconnected from the Carolinas this weekend. Trying to soak up the mid-west as much as possible and let go of our Southern staples.

30) This is such an easy drive, Denny could commute to the Heinzel house every day to work on Humzoo. We are debating our route because we may go through Virginia now. We will let you know.
niki   Monday, August 25, 2008
31) Danny, you aren't talking toa Panther fan because in the pass ten years they have drafted very few ACC players. Julius Peepers is one but they missed on Philip Rivers and Mario Williams, put other players that have been drafted into the NFL.

32) My name is Denny, not Danny.

We are taking a slightly different route now if anyone is interested. According to Google Maps we can cut an hour off our trip by taking I-64 to I-77 then taking that south to US-52 into Winston-Salem. Awesome.

35) We just passed through Lexington, KY but still on I-64. So far so good, and Google Maps only had a small leg of the road in W. Virginia marked as construction. Small as in 1-inch on the map, thats not much in real life right?

This car smells like Kevin Bacon.

37) Niki's GPS says we are going to get to Winston-Salem 13 minutes earlier than mine does. And she is sitting 1 foot away from me. It also says the distance is 16 miles less than my phone does. Naturally we are going to go with her phone but the whole phenomenon is as weird as Mel Gibson and crop circles in the Mid-West.

65) Linda, the berry crumble was heavenly. "Temperamental" is a very good word for the coffeecake! It never did finish baking in the middle but got too done on the edges. I was able to salvage some of it, but some of it ended up in the trashcan unfortunately. Trouble is I don't know what I'd do differently next time! Maybe bake it in a bigger pan?? But nobody seemed to care. There was plenty to eat so my mistake wasn't too noticeable!
!   Monday, August 25, 2008

66) Glad the crumble didn't crumble on you. Not sure about the coffeecake--mine didn't have that problem and it was in a small square disposable pan. I guess I'd try a larger pan or better yet a tube pan like a pound cake or angel food pan. The tube in the center would allow for better center cooking.

68) A trick for you if you want to use the same pan again. If you take a food can, clean it well and cut out the other end, you can place it in the center of a cake to create a "tube". When done, lift and remove (oh, it should be greased so nothing sticks). With something like this, you could do that and then brush the streusel topping over the can marks to make them "vanish". I learned that trick with oversized cake pans (12" or larger). Wash the can and keep it around for the next need or recycle and use a different one next time.
