A Breath of Fresh Air
It's been quietly in the works for a while now but I have finally moved to a new company. I have been a Security Consultant for Verizon Business for the past 2 years. The company used to be called Cybertrust but they were bought out a year ago by Verizon. I guess that's good for them, but wasn't good for me. I went from working for a company of 100 people to ~239,000 employees. It goes without saying I quickly became just another number on someone's payroll.
The company I work for now has 9 employees including the owner. I was in Sudbury, MA last week for the annual company meeting, which was held at the owner's dining room table. What a breath of fresh air.
I'll be doing the same type of security work and traveling about as much I as I did before Dylan was born. Its going to be a bit of an adjustment for us all, especially since we've added one to the family, but I think in the long run its a good move. I am already much happier working for a small company again. At the company meeting I felt very involved in the planning process and it felt great to be able to make a suggestion without going through 5 levels of management to get it approved.
It goes without saying that this transition will be hard on Niki and Dylan. Normally I wake Dylan in the morning and take her to day care long after Niki has gone to work. The added task of getting Dylan ready, and off to work early, is going to be a challenge for both Niki and Dylan I know. Hopefully I'll be able to keep the travel to a minimum and also get a few weeks at home here and there to offer relief.
With the exception of a few short trips here and there I have been at home for most of Dylan's life. This morning at day care she didn't want to let go because she knew I was going away for a little while. With an upcoming trip to Boston today, a trip to visit family and friends in the DC area later this week and another business trip to Philly next week I am not going to see her for close to 2 weeks.
With all that said, I am very excited about the new company, the people I will be working with and the new opportunities that it brings. Even if it will take some adjusting for everyone, it just feels right.
Please send your monies to me so I can bring Niki home for good and she can quit her 7 jobs. Make checks payable to:

At least you'll be able to bring home lots of presents from exotic places, like Newark and Cleveland.
BTW, next time your in MA, throw some tea in the harbor for me--not just tea, but sweeeeet tea!.
