Filming From A Car
Last week, on President's Day, I set out with my HV20 camcorder (the old one) to capture some footage from a moving vehicle. I've wanted to do this for a while to experiment with steadiness, tracking and slow-motion. My brother Grant was nice enough to drive me around in his truck for an hour and a half on a rather brisk day. This footage is all local. In-town shots are from Davidson, NC (where the Humzoo Video was shot as well) and the countryside scenes are just a few miles from my house.

The footage isn't all perfect. Even after applying some filters and editing the footage there are still obvious bumps and jerkiness. I now have some new ideas on how this can be improved next time.

I used a slow motion technique that Dave Heinzel came up with that worked really well. The work involved is fairly tedious and time consuming but it really paid off in the end. There are two slow motion clips in this film towards the end that were the result of this technique.

1) Very nice! I didn't even need the Dramamine! :) Some nice footage there. Grant must have gone slower than usual for such good shots. :)

4) Makes me long for summer and going on a bike ride through Davidson. If that was the point of the video, then Kudos!

5) It makes me long to live somewhere that the sun shines, there is blue sky, and although the trees are bare, people are not bundled up like Nanook of the North! Gorgeous!! Love it!!

7) The music was from Tyler Ramsey, he's the guitarist for Band of Horses and put out an album under his own name a year or so ago.

8) I'm sorry I missed this when you posted it. Reminds me why I love living in Carolina :) Good choice on music. I know Tyler from my Asheville days. He did a lot of great work with community art groups when I worked with the Arts Council. I bet he would like this.

9) Spike,
I've read a lot about Tyler and his involvement with the Asheville community. Very impressive! We just picked up Band of Horses tickets, they're coming to Neighborhood Theatre in June. I can't wait. For a while Tyler was actually opening for the band with his own material, that would have been awesome to see!
