Training On Tuesday I had my first training session with Tony Temple. I told him that I wanted to get in shape to play Footy and to have his way with me. He was REALLY excited that someone had finally given him free reign over them. I should have been worried after that statement, but I was pretty excited to workout.
We started with some core exercises. I did 10 push-ups on a bosu ball, right hand on the ball, walk the hands over, left hand on the ball, etc., followed immediately by 60 seconds of the "plank" on the bosu ball. We did 2 sets of these exercises.
Then I got 2 20 pound dumbbells and headed over to the stairs. I did 2 squats and then jumped up onto the next step. I did this all the way up the stairs (30 steps). Then with 15 seconds of rest, we went onto the basketball court. There I had to do a squat, kick my legs back, do a push-up, stand up and broad jump as far as I could. I did this for the length of the gym, rested 60 seconds and came back. My breathing and heart rate were crazy fast.
We went downstairs, got a Swiss ball and did some DB presses, followed immediately by an exercise that I have a hard time describing. I basically had to walk my hands up and down 3 sets of ledges, going down and then up constituted 1 rep. The floor was the lowest ledge, then about 12inches up for the next ledge and then 12 inches up for the 3rd ledge. We did 3 sets of the DB presses and the crazy hand walking exercise. By this time, my shoulders were wanting to fall off.
Next was DB lunges with a curl, which sounds easy, right? Except, he had me put each foot on this spongy square that made me unstable. I would lunge, at the bottom of the lunge I did a curl with 15 pound DBs and then go up. 3 sets of 10 reps for each leg on this. This is the part of the workout where I almost threw up. Seriously. I told him that and Tony says, "Great, thanks. I'm glad that I'm doing a good job. If you need to throw up, here's the trash." He took the lid off and set it next to me. I didn't throw up, just almost.
The last exercise was leg raises with a 2 pound medicine ball. I tried to lift my legs, but they wouldn't function. I told Tony that and he said, no problem, do it without the weight. So, I did 2 sets of 15 and the workout was finished.
All of that took 50 minutes. This was the most intense workout I have ever done and I've had some pretty intense workouts. After we were done, I went into the locker room and just sat with my arms on my legs and my head drooping and just sat for what seemed forever. I was so tired. When my friend Jon called to ask if I wanted to hang out the NEXT day, I couldn't even think straight to answer. I said, "dude, I'm gonna have to call you back, I'm not thinking clearly."
The next day, Wednesday, my legs were extremely sore. Thursday, my chest and triceps and abs were sore. Today, my lats are killing me, in a good way. I feel as if my body is taking one body part at a time to heal. Tomorrow, I should be all better. I'm getting in shape, one day at a time. My next training session is Wednesday and then another on Monday the 13th.
