the two-kid juggle

Jonas is on the verge of beginning to give up his naps. When he does nap, he doesn't go to bed until 9-9:15. So, I am really fine with him giving up naps. I am fine with the hellish evening that ensues because he is so tired. He won't voluntarily go to nap. I have to drive him. So, today I was happy to let him skip. But then Gareth's friend's mom called. The kids haven't seen each other in a couple of weeks (and they have a pool) (and it was over 80 today). So, we headed over. Jonas made it over there okay. And I could have just dropped Gareth off, but Jonas decided he wanted to stay (which was fine with the mom), but I have to stay too (at Jonas' insistence). About 4:40, Jonas had a melt down. A blood curdling, my-life-is-ending cry because the car he was building with Kid K'nex didn't turn out right. Poor guy. So we left for home at 5. I was hoping he'd make it w/out a melt down. And he did. But mainly because he fell asleep. At 5:05. It is now 6:35 and he appears to be down for the count. He is either going to wake up at 8 and be up till midnight, or wake up at 4 in the morning for the day. Either way, I'm screwed. Sigh. I just couldn't deny Gareth a chance to see Lily today. Poor Jonas. I think, as the second kid, he gets the raw deal a bit more often.

1) Yikes! I think you'd be better off if he wakes up and stays up late than a 4 a.m. wake up mommy surprise.

2) Meh...I'm usually up in the middle of the night with either a screaming baby or a playful one - send him on over! What's one more?!

3) Well.. 7:30 p.m. and he woke up. I'm still hoping for a 9-9:30 bed time. We'll see whether that's fantasy.

5) Just gave me flash back from having the twins! Good Luck. I am going to stay with them this week while big sis has back surgery. It will be interesting to see if they sleep better at home while mommy is away.

6) Well, he was asleep by 10. But then up at 5 this morning. His schedule is obviously off. I will aim for a traditional (sleep-by-car) nap today.

7) I hear you Christi. When I just had Nats, her nap schedule was written in stone. With Boo, he got one at some point during the day, often in the car when we were on our way someplace. It's hard! Now with two nappers I'm a little stricter again.
