that french cycling thingy

Well, I suspect most people here (at Humzoo) will hear about the Tour de France via BikerBen. But, my husband is a diehard fan as well. So, very soon (starts Saturday) every morning, he will do a speed watch of the day's event. His interest definitely pumps up everyone else. Gareth, our 6-year-old, really enjoys watching it too. Some day, I hope we can go watch in person, but I think that's a long-term goal.
Anyone else (besides BikerBen) a faithful watcher? Anyone have any predictions?

1) I used to watch the daily daily roundup they had every evening on Channel 4 back in the UK. The whole family would watch and it is good as long as it is half an hour but have you ever watched it live? Boring. The highlights are the good bits the rest is pedestrian.
The tour came to Southern England one year and I went to watch. It was about 2 or 3 hours of sitting around being bored followed by about 10 seconds of blur and whoosh. Then we went home.

2) Yeah... I know watching in person might be a bit anti-climatic, but it's the idea of it all. As for watching it live on TV... it's at the wrong time for us. So we watch a taped version, but we have Tivo --- a blessing for all tv watching, and especially the tour. We see much of it on fast forward.
