the pain of a brother

Jonas woke up from sleep tonight in a very distressed state. I finally figured out the source of his unhappiness. Two boys who love the same toys makes for quite a few tears about "He won't let me play with XYZ." Apparently, either in dreamland or earlier today, Gareth would not let Jonas play with one particular transformer (Tankor). And in Jonas' dream, this distressed him enough to wake up quite upset. I told him that tomorrow he could have the first turn with it. But he would not be satisfied until i agreed to go hunt down Tankor and keep him safe until the morning. Thankfully, Tankor was easily found on the playroom floor. Oh the pain of being so young. If only my worst fears were about having to share or not share a transformer toy.

1) I hear that several times a day. It seems magical the way as soon as one kid picks up a toy the other wants it. I try to buy 2 of everything but sine I usually get their toys at garage sales thats not always feasible. I have on occasion found twins sales and that sure helps.Their favorite toys always seem to be the pillows off the sofa and my kitchen utensils:>

2) Our neighbor children do this all the time. It's a source of amusement for me when they're both happily playing on their separate wheely toys, then one decides the other's is better and tries to take it away or cry. I don't think their mother finds it at all funny, but I can't help but laugh a little. Ah, children.

And I mean this in a non-sadistic way...they just always want what the other has, regardless.

3) Mrs. Shoo, don't you find the same with dogs (no offense to the children!)? I have a friend in TN who used to say "there is only one bone" "there is only one ball" meaning both dogs always want the same bone or the same ball even though there are multiples all over the house.

4) Oh, definitely. The boys always have the exact same bones, but they always want what the other has. Then Buddy will scoop all the bones and balls up into his mouth that he can fit, and Clancy will sit and cry and bark until Shoo or I have to step in. It makes me laugh when it's dogs, too.

There really is only one bone.

5) Yeah.... I knew it would happen; I was just amazed at how often (like every other second). And I felt bad for Jonas that it was invading his sleep.
