legos, k'nex, and erector sets, oh my

I have two boys. Their parents are an engineer and mathematician. Today we bought *more* legos and k'nex. I don't think it will be long before we are up to our ears in constructions toys.

1) My boys had a enormous set of wooden blocks in every shape imaginable. I was always amazed at what they could create out of those blocks. I found the blocks last weekend in storeage and I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of them. I hope someday I can pass them on to grandkids. Building is such fun...getting them to put them away was a matter. Have fun with your new toys!

2) This is pretty much the best reason to have sons. Now I can spend a whole afternoon playing with Lego and instead of thinking, "what a sad dork," they'll think, "what a dedicated father." Awesome.

3) My middle kid once built an entire fleet of cars out of k'nex. They weren't little ones either. He built them so that they rested on his shoulders and he could "drive" them around the house. There was a car, truck, and a van. My three youngest had a blast with them! He's 15 now and he still amazes me with the great things he dreams up.

4) Grandson Davis went on a trip to California, his favorite thing-Leggoland. He can't get his hands on enought of them. I love good old fashion toys that depend on imagination and effort to stimulate their little brains.

5) I agree with you, Dannie. The Mall of America has a great Lego store that used to amaze me every trip. I do hear they are rough to step on. :)

6) I was one of those kids with a ton of Legos. Used to play with an original Erector set at my grandparents.

7) We were going to go (drive) to Legoland this summer, but we're in a major money conservation mode. Maybe next year.
