preschool update
So, earlier this summer Jonas started going to preschool three mornings a week. He went with Gareth for one month. The thing about Gareth is that he would rather be home than just about anywhere else anytime. Getting him motivated and out the door is challenging, to say the least. When he went to preschool, once he was there he liked it, but he whined about going pretty much every single day. And I suspect he'll be whining about school for the next 12 years. I think Jonas picked up on this and just assumed that school was not a place that you'd want to go.
So, after that first month (July), Jonas started going by himself. At drop off, he sometimes cried, but it was usually for less than 2 minutes. And I knew he had a great time while he was there. So, last Monday morning (Jonas had been going on his own for a bit over a week -- 4 times), I said, "It's a school day." And Jonas said, "Yea!! I mean awwwwwww!" and made kind of a sad face. It took quite a bit of effort not to burst out laughing. At that point, I knew he liked it. But he'd had years of hearing Gareth say that he didn't want to go to school. Anyway... it was a prime moment to remember.
On Wednesday, I said again, "It's a school day." And Jonas said, "Yea! I mean awwwww. I mean yea! I forgot!" Again, I thought it was quite funny. And by Friday, when I said, "It's a school day" he turned to Gareth and "teased", "It's a school day for me-ee and not for you-u" clearly pleased that he was getting to go to school. (Side note: Gareth is on a break before he starts first grade at his new school next week.)
Once again... the different between my boys is apparent.

1) Cute story. It's funny how all the fussing and crying is all for your benefit. 60 seconds after you leave they are usually happy as clams. Isn't it amazing how kids learn to play the mom guilt card so young?
