baking day
I am tired. Isaiah has been wanting an apple pie for a while. Me too. So I finally made one today. Isaiah it was possibly the best pie he'd ever had. I used veg shortening in the crust instead of my usual butter. I also used a mixture of apples (fuji, gala, granny smith). It was quite yummy. The only thing is... I know Gareth would love it if he tried it, but he just won't do it. Oh well.
I also made chocolate frosted chocolate syrup brownies. Yum. Those were mainly for Jonas, but Gareth loves them too.
And then I thought I needed to use up my apples so the first thing I made was apple streusel muffins. They are quite tasty too. If I had realized how many apples would get used by the pie I probably wouldn't have made the muffins. I ended up having to buy apples today so the kids have some this week.
So my household is ready to grow. Lots of yummy goodness in the house.

1) Sounds like a good day to me, Girl! Apples are good now so I'm thinking apple-like too. I will need it to cool down a bit before I really feel motivated to do more than think about it (other than requests!) but just reading your blog helped me feel like it is a good baking day! :)
2) Do I need to send my address so you can ship some of that yummie goodness my way????
3) I have been craving apple crisp-wil have to make some this week.
4) They had locally grown apples at the store today. Gala. They were the most delicious apples I have had in my life - and only .98 a lb. I'll have to keep peak apple season in mind for next year.
5) come to my house and pick some then
6) yummy, I LOVE apple pie!!
7) Dannie, I'm with you. I prefer crisps to pies these days. I love the crunch and extra layer of flavor. Though that wonderful flaky pastry does it for me too. Decisions, decisions. :)
8) We are not quite at apple picking season here on the east coast. Another couple of weeks and I'll be out in the orchard. Apple pie, crisp & muffins. Nothing say it's fall like the smell of apples baking. Sigh.
9) You might want to try that apple cake I mentioned too, Leslie. It's a great one to use up apples. One woman at work got the recipe and made it 2 times in one week. :)
10) I've just printed the Harvest Cake recipe! Pie is almost gone.....
11) I think you will like it, Girl. Never had a disappointed recipient yet!
