County Fair

Last Friday night I took the boys to the county fair. Some people don't like to go the fair because it smells and we have the boardwalk in town (that doesn't smell and has good rides and is right on the beach, so why go to the fair??). But I know how much Gareth loves it. And Jonas likes it, too. But really, Gareth adores it.

We got there later than I wanted to. But I made sure both boys took a nap. Gareth is usually asleep by 7:30. But Jonas would nap until 2:30. That meant the earliest we'd get to the fair was 3:30. And I wanted to be sure that Gareth had enough (good, rested) energy to enjoy it. So I managed to convince him to take a nap. Thank goodness because we were there until nearly 10!! It was late even for Jonas, who usually doesn't go to sleep until 9.

But they loved it. We got there a little before 5 and did a couple of rides. Then I wanted to be sure we got to the animals because I knew how much Gareth loved that part. So we trekked to the opposite side of the fair. We did stop for dinner on the way to the animals. And got fudge. We saw all the veggies and fruits. We saw the chickens. Stopped for ice cream. Saw the reptiles and insects and spiders, fed the horses and llamas. Then we walked through the cows and pigs and sheep and goats. I swear Gareth was in heaven. When we were leaving that area, there were some kids helping move stuff around.... not sure why, seemed to be setting up an area probably for showing or auctioning the next day. Gareth asked how old the kids were and said that when he gets older he can come help. It's so interesting how much he seems to love the smelly animal stuff.

Then we had cinnamon pretzels on the way back to the rides. Gareth rode quite a few rides. He was loving every minute of it. Loved the ferris wheel. Both he and Jonas loved the house of mirrors. Jonas went in it a couple of times. Then Gareth rode the Gravitron. (I think it was called something else, but that's what I remember the name as.) It's the one that spins you around really fast and pins you to the wall and then you can slide up the walls. I was nervous going in as I'd never been on it. But Gareth needed someone to go with him, so there I was. It was actually much more fun that I expected.

The only negative thing about the fair is the cost. Holy moly! It was expensive. I think I spent $60 on ride tickets alone. Yipes!!! But it is so much more than the boardwalk. I will definitely take Gareth again and again (but only once a year).

1) The animals are fun--Gareth knows a good thing. Sounds like you all had fun--even if it was pricey. Fun memories reading that blog. :)

2) That's an evening full of memories. I think Gareth is my soul mate.
