and I wonder why I'm not a good housekeeper
Okay... I admit it... housekeeping is not my forte, putting it nicely. But it is my responsibility. However, instead of cleaning the kitchen last night, I was inspired to sew.
Awhile ago I had bout some clear plastic at the fabric store to try to replicate these:

Basically, I use them in the boys lunches instead of plastic baggies. These wrappers are reusable. But, then I discovered that the plastic I had bought is not necessarily safe for storing food, especially long term. So I had this plastic and didn't know what to do with it. Then yesterday I was browsing organizing web sites and came across these storage bags that this person was selling. I've made toy storage bags before (have two in my craft photo album). But they are usually all cloth with a drawstring closure. Last night, I made one with a velcro closure. And one side is clear plastic, so you can see what is inside. I ended up sewing the plastic to the wrong side of the fabric back, so I couldn't turn it inside out. So, instead, I made my own bias tape. Insane. I've never made it nor used it before. But it gave my bag a nice contrasting, finished edge. I also learned why you should use the thin paper they give you with the plastic. The plastic kept sticking to my sewing foot. I clued in and put the paper on top and it went SO much easier. In all... a very productive and educational evening.

More pics in the craft photo album. Now I have to figure out what toys to put in it.
Oh, and I finally figured out how to tighten the waist on Gareth's pants. He is the skinniest boy. And pants that have "adjustable" waists usually use buttons on the inside side. Those buttons hurt his bony hips. I try to buy drawstring pants when I can. But even then they are too big. The last ones I bought, the drawstring was fake and only went about an inch across the front. I realized, though, that I could use the hole for the fake drawstring and put in a new drawstring that goes all the way around. Yea! Now I have to see if that works for the other two pair of pants.
