daily tidbits

Tonight after dinner I really wanted to get the dishes cleaned up. But I could also tell that if I did not in some way interact with the boys, they were going to be too wild for my liking. Well, they had already pulled out a game... it's like Twister, made by the same people even, but instead of having a mat with 20 colored dots, each color dot is its own dot that you can put where ever. So, I grabbed the spinner and started directing the game.

"Hop to a blue dot."

"Walk backwards to a red dot."

"Make dinosaur noises while walking to a yellow dot."

"Put your bum on the green dot farthest from where you are now."

and the like. It worked really well. I managed to be able to clean the pots and pans and tidy up the dishes and dishwasher... and the boys did not come to blows, nor did I have to tell them to settle down 500 times, nor I have to turn on the t.v. I was pleased.

Then Jonas wanted to go to the playroom, but I wasn't done cleaning. Jonas went up on his own and Gareth stayed down stairs. I invited him to help me get the counters soapy and he was, to my surprise, more than happy to oblige. We each had a sponge and we scrubbed the soap over the counter, then he helped me wipe it down. He seemed genuinely happy to be doing it. Yea!

Then, he noticed the extremely brown banana on the counter. From the looks of it, most people would have thrown it out by now. But he wanted to see what the banana on the inside looked like. So, we cut it open. It looked surprisingly good. No bad spots, just extremely ripe. Well, I couldn't let that go to waste, so we had an impromptu banana muffin bake. The muffins are healthy and yummy. We were on a tight schedule, though, so I did all the mixing. But Gareth quite enjoyed mushing the two bananas.
