Any suggestions?

Thought I'd put this out there since we seem to have a few teachers here on Humzoo. My son is "graduating" kindergarten this year. Typically, I am not one for these types of graduation ceremonies. However, this is at his preschool, where kindy is the highest grade. He has been with this school for three (very formative) years, from age 3 to 6. He has grown so much. And the teachers -- there are 3 or 4 main ones in the (one room) classroom -- love him dearly. They would be crying nearly everyday at the thought of him leaving... but they know that his younger bro is starting there this summer so they'll still have a chance to see him when he visits. I cannot express all that I feel this school has done for my son. I am truly thankful for them and their caring.
All that said... I want to give them a "parting gift" but I don't know what. I would like it to be more than just a card. More than something you might get for a teacher that you've only known a year. They have really provided so much for us over the past three years, and I'd like to give something that shows my thanks.
Any suggestions?

2) There's one thing I know about teachers--they would give the shirt off their back to their students. Period. When I taught, I loved getting gift cards or supplies, like cool pencils/pens for my desk (in case students forgot one), markers, colored pencils, writing paper, dictionaries in bulk, etc. Now that I'm a SAHM and run an in-home daycare w/preschool program, I like crafty stuff. You know: paints, paintbrushes, Play Doh, glue sticks, safety scissors, writing paper, construction paper, etc. Another thing I'm always up for are things that would normally be donated or sold at a sale, if they're in good condition, such as toys (indoor/outdoor), old shirts (for painting), diapers/Pull Ups, etc.

Good luck, and congratulations to Gareth on his graduation!

5) How about a basket with all the stuff above thrown in. I love gifts that are a bunch of little things. Useful things. Tasty thing. Fun things. :) Congrats!

6) Gift certificates for manicures and pedicures. Donate a tree or a bush to be planted in their honor. Gift certificates for a nice dinner out.

7) Gifts are great but make sure you send them a letter expressing the gratitude you have shared above. It seems like teachers don't hear that enough.

8) Good ideas from all, and I really like the letter idea. I remember actually getting a few letters from students at the end of the school year, and those are quite special to me.

9) Ditto to Spike. That would mean more than anything you could ever get them.

11) I agree with the thoughtful thank you. Those are so much appreciated. Also, I love gift cards. They are fun to use! I love flowering plants as well, but that might be a personal preference for the teacher.

12) If I was there, I'd donate the baking to such a good cause! Sounds like you have some great ideas there. Gift cards are always fun--like two gifts in one. One to receive and one to play with later. One of my favorites is a super gift certificate at giftcertificates.com. You can trade it in to 100s of places--so you get a GC but can select where you use it. Definitely my favorite gift certificate to receive. Like a blank check!

Definitely the letter--the teacher will enjoy hearing all the positive things you see and how much you appreciate it. Nice of you to want to do something special to show it.

13) my wife taught kindergarten for years...and got lots of little gifts at the end of each year. All were loved. But one thing I've noticed is this little pillow that says "My favorite Teacher" ...it must have been received some 25 years ago...but I find myself having to move it EVERY night as I crawl into bed. and every morning, I see it has found it's place back into the middle of the other pillows...on the top. I'm not sure why it made it's place into her heart....but wow....it's there.

14) Yeah, another mom today (who's daughter is moving on to a new school too) said they are going to paint some pottery... something the little girl likes to do. So I am going to talk to Gareth to see what he might want to do. I did write a letter to them at Christmas when I gave them gifts, but I will probably write another one. It's a small school, only 28 kids, so I am going to try to make or get something for the school too.
