Opinions needed
I want to bring up a subject that has been brought up over on Inforoo. Just to get the opinions of the HumzOo community. I have a reason for wanting your opinions. I would like to compare them to the opinions of the members of Inforoo. The members here are VERY different from the members of Inforoo and to me it would be interesting to see if opinions on this subject are different.

What do you think of your local police force? Do you know that if you are out of town, you can call and ask them to watch your house for you? That they will drive by at random times and periodically stop and do a walk around to check your doors and windows? Have you ever done this?

I ask this because if it wasn't for knowing people who work for police departments (and my mom), I would have had no idea that you could do it. And apparently, the folks on Inforoo think that I live in my own little bubble in some sort of gated subdivision and have extreme delusions that there is no corruption in city government or on police forces. In other words, certain people seem to think that I must be stupid and ignorant.

The majority of the people on Inforoo have no use for the police and see them all as corrupt, greedy, money hungry officers that are only interested in harassing as many people as they possibly can and making as many arrests for drug possession.

I see the majority of law enforcement as men and women out doing a job they love. They are there to protect and serve. Now, that doesn't mean that all of them are good guys. Some of them can be real asses and have ego trips and let the power of the badge go to their heads. But I have found that the majority of them are good guys doing a job and if you treat them with respect, they will treat you with respect.

Now, of course, this subject has been brought to you courtesy of my stalker because of one comment she posted here. (which I have deleted as I will continue to delete her derogatory comments) Apparently she wanted to call me out on Inforoo because of my opinion of the police force in the city where I live but I guess she realized that she wouldn't be a secret stalker anymore if she did that.

1) Just to clue you in a little on the place YOU live. The mayor you were oh so fondly referring to (who also happened to die in May, not sure if you didnt know that or just chose to leave it out) has been called the worst Mayor in America. The crime rate under this Mayor has went up(by a lot). He carried concealed weapons without a license to places wear no one including the police are allowed. The police force in Jackson hated him because he pretend he was a cop and tried to model himself after Buford Pusser all the way down to carrying around a big stick. He took groups of teenagers to commit crimes including the complete destruction of a duplex with sledgehammers all because "he believed" that the people living there were drug dealers. He was even found guilty in the case. So how about do some research on the place you live before you try to brag about it on the internet. I am sure you will erase this even though all 100% true and not even about you.

2) Our local police force is pretty good for the most part. There are a few bad apples and there have been plenty of moves to clean up the bad parts in recent years. I personally have never had a bad experience with our city or county police.
That being said, the news story that came out a day or 2 ago would have you believe that it's a cesspool:

3) Keep in mind - I don't live in JACKSON - I would NOT live in JACKSON - so it seems you don'tknow as much about me as you think you do - HAHAHAHAHAHA

Frank Melton was a joke - sorry to speak ill of the dead - but he was and I am willing to bet I know alot more about him then you will ever know - most of it from officers that knew about the vast drug business that he ran while he was head of WLBT and then head of Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and then after he ran and was elected mayor - but he talked a good talk and had the people of Jackson believing in him.

BTW - he also managed to have policy changed in Washington DC at the Capitol about officers carrying weapons through checkpoints by fabricating a letter stating that he was a police officer

Try again.....

Oh - and he was not found guilty in the case - he died before he could be retried which rendered him innocent - unfortunately - he was actually found not guilty by the State Court and then the feds went after him for civil violations - do some research before you go spouting what you think are facts.

4) Soundchick - wow - but I have to say - officers are still human - they should hold themselves to a higher standard - but many of them don't. It happens here all the time also - either domestic violence, alleged sex crimes. Like I said - they are human - and the bribes come fast and furious at times. Standard joke around here is that you can make $70,000 a year working for Jackson Police Department - or $28,000 a year if you're honest

5) our local police force doesn't have much to do (thankfully...not a lot of serious crime here). That said, yes I did know they would watch your house when you're out of town...I've requested it here and my parents would have their local police force do it for them when I was growing up.

6) I do know that they will watch my house. As far as what I think of our police force...I'm just okay with it. It's not like I've had much experience with them. I do think that some of them have ego issues, but that's true of the general population. It's just that their ego issues might have more of a negative impact on someone because of the position that they're in.

I liked the police in Elmhurst; they were extra responsive.

7) The police force here in B-N is good...if shots are fired! Now, if it's a dispute with a neighbor cranking up his Winger at midnight while using a high-pressure compressor to fix some friend's tow truck on the driveway, thus waking up half the 'hood and their children, that's another story. I suppose gunshots ARE a bit more serious, but I think that those police officer egos are better stroked after answering the "shots fired" calls, right?

8) Just like every other profession/walk of life, you have your good ones and bad ones. In general, I have a very positive attitude about police officers, fire fighters, soldiers -- all people who put their lives on the line to protect others. It's the ultimate sacrifice.

Unfortunately, this type of job also draws people who I call "whistle blowers" -- the young man at the skating rink my kids used to go to who was in love with his power. Comes with the territory, I guess. I think education and training are the solutions to that.

We've got some beat cops on bikes in downtown Asheville who have a very positive air about them -- but, in general, like others have said, I've not had much interaction with the local force.

9) ok - the opinions I have received so far just reinforced what I initially thought - if you are - in general - a good, law abiding citizen, who is not out partying doing drugs and drinking all the time - and - instead - act like responsible adults - there is no problem with the po-po.

However - if you like to go out partying, smoking pot, drinking, taking acid and ecstay (and who knows what else) then the po-po are your enemy and you don't trust them or believe that they are there to protect and serve and that most of them are good guys.

10) I've lived in 6 states and had a variety of police officers that I had any dealings with. Mostly due to my getting a speeding ticket or being in an accident. On the whole, they all seemed to be more abrupt than I expected but I guess that goes with the job. They were not rude--just very matter-of-fact and to the point. One, was the ego type. He loved to hang around the mall where I worked to get his quota of tickets and harass people. The time I dealt with him regarding a speeding ticket--I was at fault and didn't do anything to justify his attitude and it was an attitude. He loved to end each sentence with "MA'AM" said in a very nasty tone. The time he gave me a ticket for a missing license plate that was stolen while my car was parked at the mall during work--I didn't take it and went to court with him. I won--the judge threw it out. The funny thing about this story is a friend at the time was in college going for a law enforcement degree and did a ride-around with some police--this guy was one of them. She said he was one of the nicest and funniest guys she'd ever met but she did notice his Jekyll/Hyde transformation when he was "the cop". I don't know why he did it but he wasn't a bad guy--just a poor policeman. If I had given him attitude or been resistent, I might have understood him treating me badly but I did nothing to deserve it. He's the type that makes people feel police are arrogant and treat them badly. When I was in MN my office was beside a police school. I noticed a lot of these soon-to-be-police had a real attitude going. I guess when I think about the job--you have to have some ego to do it. You would never last if you were a submissive or overly-gentle type on the job. Maybe you can be that way at home but not at work. I couldn't do the job--I admire them and respect them for doing it for us. And they are out there for us. On the whole, I have a great respect for them and treat them as I want to be treated. I wasn't aware of them watching your home. Good to know since I don't tend to have housesitters any more. No pets. And we know they will come check on people if asked and there are suspicious conditions (weatherwise or otherwise). They are a little scary at 1 AM but still nice and considerate. :)

11) So was this just a lie then?:

Nope - no gated community - actually a very diverse neighborhood withing walking distance from a variety of stores, the mall and a major thoroughfare through the city. Just happen to have a really good police department with great officers.

I live in the metro Jackson area which was just listed as 4th for murders per capita - the crime rate in the city itself has soared over the last few years - but our little suburb is thriving and alot of it has to do with great schools, low crime and a great city government.

If it's a bubble, I sure do like it.
JJTTBB   Tuesday, June 23, 2009
12) And this bit?:

Actually - most of the funds used to provide for the excellent police force in my city come from a high tax base in the county and the city itself which is the result of an awesome mayor and good city government that work really hard to entice businesses to locate in our city.

14) Nah - she just does not understand that a metro area includes all of the suburbs in the tricounty area here - I live outside of Jackson in a suburb - no gated community - a diverse neighborhood - with blacks, whites, asians and hispanics, within walking distance of the mall, Walmart and a grocery store. The suburb I live in has an excellent mayor that was just re-elected and has been mayor here for many many years. We have a level 5 school system and I like my bubble. I never once said I lived within the Jackson city limits and would NOT live within the Jackson city limits. I did that as a young 20 something - no interest in doing it again.

So once again JTB - get your facts straight before you decide to spout off.

How about addressing the fact that you were wrong about whether Frank Melton was found guilty or not?

Other then that - you also need to consider that what you are doing with me here is considered harassment - it is stalking plain and simple - you have threatened me on here and I have saved the comments you have made.

15) Meg, all I could think of was I live in a suburb of Chicago but that doesn't mean the politics of my town are as corrupt as they are there. Apparently according to your stalker all suburban areas are the same as the city they surround...??? Yeah, that makes sense. (But am I making sense? Sleep deprivation...can't articulate as well as I used to!)

16) Yeah - you made sense. But it also makes sense if, rather then giving someone the specific city you live in - because, after all, this is the internet and there are crazy people out there, you say that you live in the Metro Chicago area - which you do.

17) Try reading a little instead of just spreading what you think you know.:

"Later in the year, Melton would take a guilty plea on the gun misdemeanors and plead no-contest on the felony. The terms of both his bond and his probation for the gun charges did not allow him to be around firearms, supervise children under 17, leave his home past midnight without 48 hours' prior permission from his probation officer, consume drugs or alcohol, or use police equipment in any way. Melton, Michael Recio and Marcus Wright were acquitted on all counts filed in the Ridgeway Street incident on April 26, 2007."

And when did I threaten you? I do know that slander is illegal and you attempting to label me as a drug addict whore that sleeps with anyone off of inforoo could be argued as such. There were never any threats made against you. I did say I was going to spread your pictures over the internet, which is entirely legal as your the genius that has put dozens of pictures of you and your family on the internet for anyone to do anything they want with.

18) "Melton, Michael Recio and Marcus Wright were acquitted on all counts filed in the Ridgeway Street incident on April 26, 2007."

and there you go - he was found NOT GUILTY - acquitted on all charges regarding the duplex. That was in the state court. Yeah he pled guilty to misdeameanors regarding gun possession - big deal - people do that every day - and it obviously was not enough for him to lose his job of mayor.

After that the feds got an indictment against the 3 of them for civil rights violations and others. Wright pled guilty in return for lienency if he testified against Melton and then after Melton died - when it was still up in the air if the feds would move forward with the trial Recio pled guilty. Melton was automatically presumed innocent by virtue of the fact that he died before trial.

But that's really neither here nor there as I don't live in Jackson and Melton was not my mayor.

The harassment and stalking me here, making constant and continual derogatory comments would be enough for me to file a complaint.

Slander is a hard thing to prove. Not only that - you are the one that started all of this in the first place. You came out of nowhere in a political thread that you were not active in and attacked me personally for my opinion on the welfare system. Then you decided you had to come here and start making nasty comments about my pictures and my blogs - I can only assume it is because you are jealous of the life I lead and the friends I have. It's either that - or you are just a mean spiteful bitch with no life.

Why don't you just go away - leave me alone - I have already put you on ignore in Inforoo - deleted you and your buddies from my facebook and myspace. I really don't want to have anything more to do with you.

19) JJTTBB...I really suggest you seek some professional help. What you are doing is considered cyberbullying and cyberstalking. Both of which indicate some kind of personality defect that should be treated with therapy and/or medication.

21) But a blog solely devoted to bashing me is what??? I dont remember ever making a single post on the internet about Meg that wasnt said directly to her. I love how that makes me a coward that hides and all that nonsense. Yet all Meg does here and over on infolame is make comments about me not at all to me but about me. In nearly every thread you feel the need to mention your "cyberstalker" even when it has absolutely nothing to do with the discussion or me. Even when I havent posted in the thread or said a thing about you.

I think you enjoy the attention and all the pats on the back you get. You claim you want me to leave you alone yet you continue to mention me nearly every day. I quit messing with you and you kept going on and on about me so I came back to defend myself. Its all out there with times and dates(except the stuff you have erased). I didnt say a thing to you for months yet you continued to mention your "cyberstalker" and make other references to me. You even went as far as chasing new members off of inforoo claiming they were with me even though I have had no interaction of anykind with them. And your the one thats 40 years old with 3 kids!

22) I had a long response to you Aly - but I just don't care anymore - just go away and leave me alone - don't post comments here - there is no need to you to comment on how fat and ugly I am in my pictures (Oh wait - that was the first stone thrown - right after Bonnaroo - you posting nasty comments behind your anonymous screen name of johnthabaptist - it wasn't until later that you attacked me in the politcal thread)

At any rate - just leave me alone - go away - live you life and quit worrying so much about mine!

25) We live in a very small town and know the police chief well. He looks out for us and I just call if we need them to check on things. I have had many friends who have worked in fire and police departments, as a nurse we had a special appreciation of the challenges in our jobs. I applaud all efforts that they take to curb drugs, child and spouse abuse and all the other bad things. They are human and just like each individual have strengths and weakness but I would be terrified to live in a world without them.
