Wednesday, June 24th, 2009Festival Dilemmas Ok so last week, I get a private message on Inforoo from my friend Jess
"We are planning a Trip to the September Schwagstock. My favorite venue in the world. tickets are 60 bucks, and everyone is awesome. I am going to start this thread next week when I get back from my Phish tour, but I am telling people now. here is my formal invitation I really hope you guyscan figure out how to make this.
How would you feel about a September trip to campzoe with us. So far ****** myself, *****, and **** are in for sure, and we have several more that are almost probably gonna make it. It is such a great weekend and I have been talking to the staff, if we can get twenty people signed up for an inforoo theme camp he will reserve us a private beach right by the real (free as well) showers and toilets. It is going to be String Cheese, and String Cheese associated acts all weekend, with a little reggae and Grateful dead thrown in. The really great part is that there is nothing to do but hang out until 5 or 6 every day so we can all have a chance to chat and get to know each other while playing in a beautiful spring fed river by a private beach at a what is essentially a resort for hippies. The tickets are only 60 dollars but I have to get people to pre buy them if I want a reserved campsite, the guy is really looking forward to this though it is something he has been wanting to try."
I thought about it, looked at the dates and the line-up (EOTO is playing YAY) and responded that it was doable but I had a business trip the following week and had to be in Houston on Monday
The response I got:
"I really do not want to take no for an answer on this one." And a suggestion to just fly out of St. Louis to Houston.
So we are considering how to do this when I get an email from my friend in Huntsville about Big Spring Jam and the fact that it has leaked that The Black Crowes are headlining Friday night. I tell her that I am flying home from Houston that day her response is that I should just fly into Huntsville and have Boz drive over with the kids and meet me.
THEN I check Consequence of Sound for the Voodoo lineup in October. So far, it is a really awesome line up. My biggest draw would be George Clinton and the Parlaiment Funkadelic, but Robert Randolph will also be there, Kings of Leon, Beastie Boys, Kiss and possibly Metallica. This is also great because Boz's birthday is 10/28 and it would be a good present for him to have a weekend of music and friends.
I have a serious festival dilemma because I want to do it all and I just do not think it is possible. Schwagstock sounds like a lot of fun it's a small festival, private beach, lots of good Inforoo friends. But The Black Crowes are always a big draw for me so Big Spring Jam would be awesome (and cheap just gas, food and tickets We can stay with my friend in Huntsville) But there is the problem of the trip to Houston in between those two.
You kids and your multitude of musical options.
