The last two weeks...

Hello humzooers, it has been two weeks since I have posted anything new. I would love to tell you I have been off on some whirlwind adventure, and have just not had the time, but that would be a lie. In actuality, I went back to work. Summer vacation is over and my school is back in session. I went back Monday, July 14th, and put in some very long days over the next week and a half. Wednesday, July 23rd, the students came back for their first day. It was exciting and stressful, now the school year is in full swing and life can return to normal.

Last weekend my Dad and Step-mom Sheryl, came to visit. It was the first time since I moved here 7 years ago that my dad has been here. They flew in Saturday morning and flew out Sunday night. It seems like a very short time for them to be here, but we packed a lot in those two days. We took them to Darcy's Pint for lunch on Saturday and they both tried a horseshoe! We drove down to St. Louis and stayed Saturday night, just for fun. We went to a place called John D. McGurk's Pub. My maiden name is McGurk, and so my dad was excited to go and drink there.

We cam back to Springfield Sunday morning and took them to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. I think that is the 7th time Joe and I have gone, and it is still cool. We had lunch at Monty's sub shop and then drove them to the airport. It was great to see them and I had a blast.

I finally have some quite time this weekend, but next weekend will be non-stop, as my niece Claire will be in town! I can't wait to see her!

1) K8, I think I saw you on my way home from the FitClub the other day. You were standing outside of school? I thought about saying hi, but I stunk to high heaven. I've finished with summer school, but freshman orientation starts in a week, then school begins right after that. I'm soooo not ready!!

2) Wow school starts early in Springfield. Do you get mini breaks along the way? Welcome back. I noticed you hadn't posted anything in a while.

3) You should holler at me anytime Mrs. Shoo. My school is right there by Fit Club, so it was probably me!

Leslie- I am at one of two "year-round" schools in Springfield. We are in session 9 weeks and off for 3. In the summer the kids get 5 1/2 weeks off. All the other schools will be back in session in late August.

4) K8, how do you like the balanced calendar? In theory it sounds amazing. I'd love to have a two or three week break occasionally. It would make planning and grading so much easier. And it seems like it would really help to alleviate that end-of-the-year burn-out.

5) I really love the calendar. The only drawback is that most of the rest of the district forgets about us, or we get left out of things. They have conferences and banquets for everyone when they are "off", but we are in session so we do not get to attend, or have to take days off to be able to go. Other than that, I love it. It could be really easy to get burnt out, and as soon as you think that will happen, you have a three week break!
