Edible Horseshoe

Tonight Joe and I made horseshoes for dinner. Joe made the cheese sauce (from scratch) after he put the fries in the oven. I made the hamburgers and toasted the bread. It turned into the deliciousness you see above you. In case you have not had one or heard of it is made as such: texas toast laid out with a hamburger patty on top, fries piled on and cheese sauce poured over everything.

Since I am not from Springfield or the surrounding area, I had never heard of them let alone had a horseshoe before moving here. It even took me couple of years before I would even try one once I was here. But once I did, it was all over. There is even hot debate over who makes the best. Everyone you ask can tell you where they go when they want a really good shoe. There is even a half-size version called a ponyshoe. So when you just want a little. It may look like the most fattening thing ever to be eaten, but anyone that has had one can tell you it is delicious.

1) Horseshoes are one of my favorite meals. You really can't go wrong there. Although, when I have homemade ones, I leave out the toast. I find it unnecessary. Did Joe put beer in his cheese sauce? My mom has an excellent recipe. There's also debate over which restaurant had the original horseshoe, I believe. When I was little, we used to enjoy the Norb Andy's ones downtown. Most recently, my favorite one is from D'Arcy's Pint.

Next Primary Party should be Horseshoe Night!

2) I haven't put beer in my cheese sauce yet, but it really seems like sacrilege now not to have. I'm all over the Horseshoe Primary Night! We'll bring the fries.

3) Apparently I can't go on Kati's site before dinner ;-) Dang I'm super hungry now. And by the by, I remember Lum's had an awesome horseshoe when I was a kid.

7) Any place that uses "nacho cheese" as the cheese sauce is bad. Any place that puts the fries on top of the cheese sauce is bad. Doing it both together makes them the worst in town!

8) People use nacho cheese? People put the fries on TOP of the cheese?? I mean seriously, WTF??? That is just blasphemy. I won't stand for it. We need to drive these soulless establishments across the county.
